Poor April attendance marks year’s weakest showing

The April monthly attendance summary shows the poorest figures of the year across grades one through seven. Only a few pupils achieved perfect attendance while several lists name students from Miss Wonder’s grade and others as second to seventh graders, reflecting broad absences and low participation.

Good Literature Club Plants Memorial Tree For Mabel Jones

The Good Literature Club voted to plant a tree in memory of Mrs. Mabel Jones at the meeting held at Mrs. Ruth Hachmuths home on Tuesday evening. Mrs Reading donated the tree and a committee including Mesdames Lampman and Mack will attend the planting.

Beaverton Hosts Gladwin Clare Coleman Athletic Association Formed

O R Atkins reports a Beaverton meeting on April 16 organizing the Gladwin Clare Coleman and Beaverton Athletic Association. The group plans yearly field meets starting May 9 in Beaverton with rules from M I A A and a five dollar per school annual fee. Presidents secretaries treasurers and two directors to lead, with school superintendents coaches and two varsity students as members.

Undimmed lights blamed for Clare collision

John Dionise returning from Alma with fruit says two accidents occurred within a short distance. First at Rose Bush the other driver’s bright lights blinded him, causing a fender clash and battery trouble. He then lost control hitting the ditch as another fast car with strong lights approached, but he escaped uninjured though the truck’s rear wheel broke. The other vehicle fled.

Log Cabin Twelve Farewell Dinner For Trevegno Couple

The Log Cabin Twelve hosted a farewell dinner Monday at Hotel Doherty for Mr. and Mrs. D Trevegno. Eighteen plates served, four missing. Guests later watched the evening show at Princess and planned to relocate to Cadillac where Mr Trevegno will work.

Man Who Helped Nominate Lincoln Delivers Lecture

Mr. Proctor, the last living of 466 Lincoln delegates, spoke at Mt. Pleasant Normal about the 1860 National Convention. Baptist Church Holds Annual Meeting

The Baptist church members met Thursday evening for a pot luck supper at the parsonage. Reports from all departments showed growth and prosperity. Officers elected included Deacon A. T. Loomis, Deaconess Mrs. A. J. Clute, Clerk Mrs. Minnie Brown, Treasurer Mrs. A. J. Clute, and trustees A. T. Loomis and Miss Mary Gilmore. Bible School officers were appointed with Supt. Mrs. H. Terwilliger and assistants. A building committee to study alterations was also named: Loomis, Greer, Neithercut, Osborn, and Huy.

Democrats Hold County Convention in Clare

The Clare county Democrats convened at city hall on April 29 with Temporary Chair H W Brown presiding. Delegates John A Jackson, John Neithercut, Herrie Brown and alternates L H Thompson and others were chosen to attend the May 15 Flint state convention.
