The W S C S mother daughter banquet at the Methodist Church drew 175 meals served at 7:00 pm. Mrs. Ernest Chaffee gave the invocation and Mrs. Theo Wallington welcomed guests as president. A garden stage, songs, readings, and Bible study were presented by members including Martha Ann Parent and Patty Hall.

Harrison Girl Seriously Hurt in Auto Crash Near Clare
Five and a half miles north of Clare on US 27 Saturday morning three Harrigon girls and their mother were injured when Bernard Hill drove off the road after a car backed onto the highway. Marjory Seelinger was badly injured and transfused. Beverly Seelinger had nose injuries and was released. the others treated for minor injuries and not detained. State Police from Mt Pleasant investigated. Bernard Hill issued summons for driving without an operator's license.

A local school seeks old programs and photographs for a commemorative scrapbook to document the school’s history from its beginning to the present. Clare High School Band Victory Concert May 7
The Clare High School and Junior High Band Concert will be held Thursday May 7 at eight o'clock. Admission is one 25 cent war stamp for war bonds. Poppies will bloom in Clare on Saturday May 23 to honor fallen servicemen. Captain Charles Popp in Michigan named Russell D. McLean a Clare County eighteen year old farmer as his No 1 civilian defense pick. McLean filled enlistment papers and mailed them, but was refused due to a wooden leg. He wrote I can fight like hell despite having a wooden leg.

Missing in Philippines Corporal Kapplinger Reported
Mr and Mrs William Kapplinger of Farwell received a Washington telegram stating their son Corporal Jarvis Kapplinger was missing or a prisoner of war after fighting on the Bataan Peninsula Luzon Philippines He served with F Company 4th U S Marines and had earlier spent time in Shanghai China He last wrote April 8 saying he was well and safe and having a swell time.

Mrs Maud Parrish Dies After Long Illness
Mrs Maud Parrish aged seventy five died Tuesday after a prolonged illness. She lived near Clare for nearly six decades. Funeral services conducted at her home by Rev H L Cleveland with interment in Cherry Grove cemetery. A life sketch will appear in next week’s Sentinel.

Four Michigan Bell Operators Receive Citations for 1941
Four Michigan Bell operators were honored by the Michigan Vail Committee of Award for notable public service in 1941. Mary Deichbohr and Mildred M. Todd received individual certificates, while Ruth Knudson and Helen Blaske shared a joint citation for scenes of danger and quick action. Knudson heard a cry for help and alerted police at a Wyandotte home where three people were overcome by carbon monoxide. Blaske, alerted by a call reporting a hold up at a filling station, notified police who found the attendant severely beaten. Todd aided a rural home patient with a severed artery after a call led to a hospital transfer.
