The sacred oratorio The Holy City by A R Gaul will be presented in the Clare Methodist Church Palm Sunday service on April 2 at 8:00 PM Central War Time. The program features readings from Revelation, solos by Doris Gerow and Doris Gerow Trio, choruses including They That Sow In Tears and For God So Loved, and a benediction by Rev Hughes.

Gas for farm use not dependent on AAA membership

John F. Kessel, Saginaw OPA director, clarified that farmers may obtain gasoline for farm use without AAA membership. AAA records can speed certification, but farmers may bypass AAA with the War Price and Rationing Board providing the same information. Also note that several gasoline coupon series expire March 31, with first quarter T coupons expiring Friday.

Damoth Named Regional GOP Finance Director in Michigan

Arthur Damoth of Clare named regional finance director by Arthur B. Summerfield to collect the Republican campaign fund in the region covering Clare Isabella Gratiot and Montcalm counties. Amusement and Other Taxes to Rise April First

Taxes on entertainment and consumer goods rise to fund wartime efforts starting tomorrow April 1. General admissions become one cent per nickel, box and seat leases up to twenty percent, cabaret checks to thirty percent, and liquor beer wine taxes increase. Local and long distance telecom and travel taxes rise, and luxury items like jewelry and furs see higher rates. Bowling alleys and billiard tables priced at twenty dollars per year per unit.

MRS W C ARTCLIFF DIES AT HOME NEAR CLARE

Mrs Catherine Artcliff aged 77 dies after two years of declining health at her home west of Clare on US 10. Born in Gratiot county in 1867 she leaves husband W C Artcliff three sons Bert Floyd and Theodore nine grandchildren seven great grandchildren two nieces and many relatives. Funeral services conducted by Rev Charles Kleinhardt at Thurston Funeral Home were held Monday at 2 pm with Rebekah Lodge in charge and interment at Cherry Grove Cemetery.

Clare Third Degree Team Initiates at Harrison

Officers and third degree team of John Q. Look Lodge No. 404 Clare were guests of John J. Carton Lodge Harrison Wednesday evening last week and exemplified the third degree raising two candidates to Master Masons. Thirty Clare members witnessed the ceremony. Will Francis longtime Mt. Pleasant resident and grain elevator operator died early Wednesday at age 81. Born in Ohio on January 13 1863 he lived in Ionia Belding Saginaw and Ithaca before moving to Mt. Pleasant four decades ago. The Thayer Dairy plans a refrigerated locker facility by buying adjoining property from the Clare County Road Commission. The storage plant will offer aging, cutting, wrapping, and storage of meat, fish, poultry, fruit, berries, and vegetables for a nominal locker fee. Patrons register at the dairy or Manee's Meat Market with a yearly rental of 10 to 14 dollars and a 60 percent deposit to reserve lockers.
