Longtime Farwell resident Josiah Littlefield dies at 68
Josiah Loomis Littlefield of Farwell died March 14 at Seaside Hospital Long Beach California after a ten day illness from an acute bone infection. Born July 3 1845 in Flat Rock Michigan he studied civil engineering at the University of Michigan and moved to Farwell in 1871. He led local government education work and lumbering ventures while championing forest replanting. Survived by wife Hmnia Sayle and children Hazel Grace and Franklin F Littlefield with earlier marriage to Hillen Hart producing a daughter Billen.

Mrs. M Margaret Inman Powell 88 died Wednesday night at her daughter's home in Clare. Born August 18, 1847 near Ingersoll Canada she was the eldest of ten. She lived in Stratford Bellevue Michigan Battle Creek and joined her daughter in Clare three years ago. She was a member of the Bellevue and Barrie Methodist churches.

Speakers included Prof BE Grambau and Mt Pleasant delegates who urged community involvement in landscaping along US 27, with ideas such as decorative rural mail boxes, native pine trees, river bank plantings, and landscaping around the city spring.
