Clare City Raises Justice of the Peace Salary
Clare city commission passed Ordinance 206 increasing the Justice of the Peace and clerk hire salary from $1200 to $3200 per year with immediate effect. Ordinance 207 adds meat inspection and licensing rules, assigns a licensed veterinarian for out of city inspections, and fees to the requester. Ordinance 207 takes effect April 4. full text to be published next week.

The Clare P T A met Monday evening in the Clare School with strong attendance. Two Hurt When Train Overturns Rail Motorcar
Clare men Orison Huntley and Leo Colmus were injured Friday morning when a railroad motorcar they rode collided with a westbound freight near the station. Both men suffered leg fractures but another worker was unhurt as the motorcar overturned. The collision halted US-27 traffic and caused a 35 minute delay for repairs.

Safety Flags Presented To Central Michigan Schools
Clare and Isabella county law enforcement and safety groups give safety flags to area schools with green flags featuring a white cross and safety buttons for each grade schooler. The Isabella Safety Council with Mt Pleasant and Clare police and sheriff departments plus Michigan State Police run the program to reduce traffic deaths in Central Michigan. Michilimacina c Chapter of Clare and Farwell received three awards at the 56th State Conference in Jackson March 16 and 17. Regent Mrs. Donald Holbrook accepted Gold Ribbons and Corsage for National Honor Roll, a $25.09 membership net increase check, and a National Society Membership Certificate. Speakers included Alvin Bentley and Dr. Fred C Schwarz. Good Citizens Day honored 300 girls with certificates. Mrs. Holbrook to attend Continental Congress in Washington in April.
