Wayland driver charged in license plate theft case
Robert Ruhle of Coleman reported the plate taken from his car in front of Hotel Doherty. Charles Lawther of Wayland admitted unlawfully placing a 1947 plate on his car and was fined 15 dollars plus 3.35 costs after arraignment. Police also pursued peddlers selling aluminum ware and reported two Detroit men briefly detained. one other case involved Eugene Shafer cited for red light violation and a missing 15 year old returned to his father.

Hart dies after foggy US 27 crash near Harrison
William Hart a 66 year old retired railroad man died in Clare Hospital after a traffic crash four and a half miles north of Harrison on US 27 at the Arnold Lake Road intersection. Hart and Jay Blackledge 26 of Harrison were in a 1940 Ford when they collided with a southbound 1946 Chevrolet driven by Jay Green 55 of St Clare in dense fog. Hart suffered a fractured skull and deep facial lacerations and died three hours after admission. Blackledge was treated for a knee injury and shock. Hart’s remains were returned to Thurston mortuary for burial in Acacia Cemetery Oakland County.
