State Speaker Nar Rates Building of Federal Roads

Frank D. Fitzgerald of Lansing, business manager of the state highway department, praised the department's efficiency at a Clare Chamber of Commerce meeting. He outlined trunk line history, finance from weight and gas taxes, and noted road work planned for U.S. 27 and U.S. 10, including grading east of Clare and west of Midland for 1931 paving season.

Farmers Banquet Planned by Glare Shipping Association

The Glare Shipping Association will host a banquet on Friday evening March 21 at Duncan hall in Clare for members and others in live stock raising and marketing. Clare High Wins Class C Championship in District Tourney

Clare High School captured the Class C title at Mt. Pleasant by defeating Beaverton 27 to 13 and then beating Coleman 21 to 7 in the finals. Coach Alldread used eleven players in the final, with Clare leading from the start and pulling away in the second half.

Examination for Clerk Carrier Post Office Job

An open competitive examination under the Civil Service Commission is announced for the Clare Post Office for the position of Clerk carrier. Applications to take the exam are due by April 4. State records show gains in 4 H enrollment with 24 1174 boys and girls trained in 2 406 clubs across 81 counties. 1929 figures rise from 1 909 clubs and 19 022 members in 1928. Michigan urban leaders meeting in Jackson on March 6 opposed Dykstra's bill to divert one third of the automobile weight tax from state highway funds to city administrations. Former Garfield resident dies at Clio home

Almira Dolly Andrews 77, a Genesee County native who later lived in Clare County, died at her Clio residence on March 6. She was born May 1, 1852, married Jeremiah Andrews on November 16, 1868, and left twelve children, eleven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday at Mt. Morris Methodist Church.
