G W Wagar of the Michigan Department of Revenue will assist Clare residents at City Hall on March 14 and March 28, 1946 from 1 to 5 p m in preparing intangibles tax returns due by March 31 1946. The notice lists taxable items such as mortgages land contracts bank accounts cash and stocks. US bonds are exempt and some deposits and stock interests are paid directly by banks. The department warns of penalties for failure to file and urges bring held holdings and values from 1945 and 1944 returns.

Registration and Inactivation Required for War Souvenir Guns
The Alcohol Tax Unit urges veterans to turn in war souvenir machine guns and submachine guns for registration or inactivation. Under the National Firearms Act, guns capable of firing more than one shot, with detachable stocks or barrels under 18 inches, must be registered with possible transfer tax. Stanley LeRoy Glass born October 21 1887 in Gilmore township Isabella County Michigan died February 26 1946 at age fifty eight. He lived in Farwell area most of his life worked as a carpenter and joined the Church of Christ later. He leaves wife Nellie Seymour four children two siblings eight grandchildren and many relatives. Funeral services were held March 1 at Farwell Methodist Church with Rev. Charles B Hahn officiating.

The program featured two gospel services, a pot luck fellowship supper, a youth program, devotional service, and a stirring evangelistic message. Local participants spanned Cadillac to Mt. Pleasant, Alma, Saginaw, Flint, and Detroit area towns. Rev. John Raidorf of Kalamazoo spoke on the Michigan Churches of God part of the Million Dollar Campaign.

Michigan Special Session Enacts Broad Veteran Benefit Legislation
The Michigan Legislature, in a February special session, passed thirty bills prioritizing veterans. Total spending likely exceeds ninety million dollars, with about seventy five million aiding veterans directly or indirectly. A fifty million dollar Veterans Trust Fund was created and 260 thousand was allocated to Veterans Affairs for student loans. The package also expands on the GI loan program by removing bank restrictions and revises the Homestead Exemption to guarantee refunds of taxes paid during service plus one year, reimbursed by the state.

Mrs Ruby Cairns Strauch died in Detroit February 24 and funeral services were held March 2 at Doherty Funeral Home Clare. Rev R C Thomson officiated with interment at Coleman Cemetery. Survived by husband Charles W Strauch and children Betty Lintner June Taylor Donald Dudley and Albert who died in infancy. Also sister Mrs Vernon Cantley brother Herbert Cairns and many nieces and nephews.
