Crash Fatal To Former Pastor John Lockyer dies in auto accident

Rev. John Lockyer aged 70, former Clare Methodist Church pastor, was killed in an auto crash Monday. Funeral services set for Thursday at Prindle Funeral Home in Lawton. Survived by wife, a daughter and two sons. He led Clare church 1931 33 and retired in 1952 after Tawton charge and had since supplied several charges while living at Magician Lake Benton Harbor.

Water Tank Repairs In Clare City Park

Clarence Ramey of the Streets and Water Department led a crew Tuesday night and Wednesday morning to drain and clean Clare's city water tank in the park. Contractors coat the interior and outside repairs are planned. City Manager Willard Wedge says the work occurs every five years.

Harrison County citizens packed the dedication of the new jail last Tuesday. Sheriff Jim Darling said crowds arrived at 1 p m and lingered until 7 p m. County supervisors attended and were shown the facilities during open house tours.

Break-In At Salvage Store Reports About 200 Loss

About 200 dollars worth of items were reported missing Wednesday from the Railroad Salvage Store north of Clare on US 27. Sheriff James Darling said a pick axe forced entry and the back garage door was raised but failed, leading to a front entry.

The Clare Chamber of Commerce plans to own a large 40 by 24 foot roadside billboard near North Bradley. It will direct traffic past cutoffs onto the US 27 main route, replacing a neon sign. Other towns backed out, leaving Clare to cover the cost.

Spikehorn Meyers Fined Over Bear Permit Violation

Spikehorn Meyers of Harrison was found guilty by a six member Clare Municipal Court jury on June 21 for failing to obtain a Conservation Department permit to keep and exhibit bears. He was fined $25 and $16.30 court costs and plans to appeal to the county circuit court. a January fire damaged Spikehorn's Bear Den south of Harrison on US-27.

Oil Truck Fire Damages Vehicle Near Town

An oil and gas bulk-delivery truck owned by Nick McConnell caught fire Tuesday outside town. Fire officials say a spark from static electricity started the blaze in the hose compartment. The truck sustained about $50 worth of damage before McConnell smothered the flames with a blanket as Clare Fire Department units arrived.
