Farwell School Board approves another millage election for mid August after two prior defeats. The district faces a $1 million shortfall with 40 teachers to be laid off and significant cuts to summer programs, bus service, and activities if the millage fails.
The Clare Industrial Development Committee presss ahead to raise 50 000 for a 37acre site southeast of town near the highway overpass. So far 30000 has been raised with donors urged to loan in 5 increments at 5 percent interest.
Clare City Commission approves a relocatable house permit for a site on Schoolcrest between Hemlock and Cedar after Zoning Board support. Public hearing noted no opposition to curb and gutter on Cleveland and Cottage Streets and plans to pave next year.
Mt. Pleasant district manager Donald L. Hire says July checks will include a 6.4 percent cost-of-living increase for most Social Security recipients. The adjustment, added to law in 1972, will be automatic with no action required from beneficiaries in Clare County.
