Miss Catherine Crowell and Ross D Thompson wed at Old Mission Church on Traverse Bay with Rev. Ernest T Bennett presiding. The bride formerly taught in Clare Public Schools and studied at Ypsilanti State Normal. the groom, a Clare native, trained as a lawyer in Detroit and now works with Brown Kelley and Warner in Lansing. They will reside at 115 12 West Saginaw Street in Lansing.

Senator Achard Accused on Check and Theft Charges

Clare state senator A B Achard faced arraignment before Justice James BEB McDonald on a 156.50 bad check charge from Frank J Mueller. He also faced a 760 theft by false pretenses complaint from Lloyd T Crane about a supposed 90000 trust fund and a 1500 January payment.Bond set 1300 for Crane case and 300 for bad check. new bond 1000 with two sureties. Examination scheduled for next Thursday.

Clare Senator Achard Ordered to Pay Alimony and Note

State Senator A. EB. Achard was ruled in a Clare circuit court divorce decree to pay Wilma Brezee Achard $125 monthly alimony and a $5,000 promissory note within a year. He faced charges for issuing checks without funds and obtaining money by false pretenses on two warrants. The couple, married June 26, 1917, did not contest the divorce.

Youth Captured After Wounding Three in Pursuit

Lyle Kilmer an 18 year old resident near Marion believed mentally deranged was captured Sunday night after wounding three deputies during a pursuit. He reportedly confessed to hardware store burglary and stealing two cars including Dr Lampman’s. Kilmer fired on deputies but was later seized near a railroad bridge with a shotgun in hand. Sheriff Woods and Clare County officers aided the search.

George Bryant Sr of Vernon Hill was surprised by his children on Monday evening June 16 as they gathered to mark his 83rd birthday. Ice cream and cake were served and the Blacksmith has worked since 1887 after moving from Kingston Canada 43 years ago.

Death of Elmer Miller After Forty-Three Years in County

Elmer Miller aged 65 died June 11 1930 after four years of illness. Born March 9 1865 in Williams County Ohio he moved to Clare County in 1887 married Belle Lower in 1890 and settled in Sheridan Township later relocating to Hatton Township. Survived by wife thirteen grandchildren six sisters and one brother with many friends. Funeral Sunday June 15 at 1 00 pm with Rev Kleinhardt officiating at Cherry Grove Cemetery Clare.

Local Creamery Reopens Saturday in Clare Plant

Thayer Brothers of Mt. Pleasant have acquired the Creamery building on west Fourth Street formerly tied to the Ann Arbor Dairy and now plan to operate ice cream and butter production. The sale was handled by S. M. Callihan, with a retail opening scheduled for this Saturday.

Bootlegger Turned Over to Federal Court for Hearing

Ployd Nelson of Frost township was arrested with three gallons of moonshine in his car on Me Iwan street. He owns Lakeside hotel at Bluegill Lake near Harrison and was taken to Har rison, then Bay City for federal charges. Police watched him after reports of weekly Clare visits and car meets, leading to a search warrant at the hotel. The case goes to federal court in Bay City for arraignment with next session July 15.

Kapplinger Resort at Five Lakes draws summer tourists

Northwest of Clare city a chain of Five Lakes offers spring water and rich fishing. William Kapplinger developed his southern lake farm with benches and tables for anglers, built cottages for guests, and added features yearly. A refreshment stand opened this season amid rising inquiries for stays.

Former Greenwood resident Sophia Garrow dies in Owosso

Sophia Garrow 79 died June 12 at the Owosso home of James Graham after a two week illness with heart trouble. She was buried Sunday at Greenwood cemetery. Born in Chatham Ontario she moved to Michigan in 1893 and lived near Harrison before relocating to Owosso eight years ago. Her husband Israel Garrow preceded her in death. She leaves many relatives and friends.

Ohio Motorists Injured as Car Strikes Bridge

Mrs. Paul Ward of Columbus aged 30 was seriously injured when the auto she was driving crashed into the cement abutment on the bridge over the Tobacco River on U S 10 between Farwell and Clare.
