Rural Graduating Exercises A Big Success
Ag predicted the second annual rural school exercises honoring eighty seven eighth grade graduates of the year closing in May 1927. A heavy rain had threatened but cleared to allow a program in Harrison's opera house before about twelve hundred onlookers. The Farwell high school orchestra provided music under Madge Byrne Lamb, with Rev. A. P. Light giving the invocation and benediction. Superintendent W. Roger Zinn praised rural graduates and stressed the three essentials of success as Clare county's rural class received applause for salutations and poems by Alice Sparbel and Elizabeth Dellay.

Clare High School Sends Boys to Week Long Camp
Clare high school and eighth graders will camp at Windover Lake for a week starting Monday June 20 under Rev. H B Johnson. Leaders from each group run activities including cooking, hikes, nature study, games and treasure hunts. Each camper must bring specified food and gear or pay three dollars, and provide transportation to the site.

Culprits Try to Open Safe in Clare School
Thieves blew the large fireproof safe and filing case in the Clare public school office Thursday night but failed to open it. They gained entry by forcing a rear door, broke office doors, entered the library, and unlocked high school classrooms with a master key. Small sums were taken, but the final examinations and permanent records remained inside the safe. The robbery was found by Janitor W. S. Wasson Friday morning. Dr. A. E. Mulder and Superintendent Zinn notified. state police aiding local investigators.

Local manager nets even larger catch at mill pond
C A Wellman, manager of Consumers Power Co, aimed to break Clare county’s two year fishing record. He hauled in a big pike weighing 12 1/2 pounds while landing a large bass, attached to the Al Foss bait. He expects to keep the record for another two years.

Clare Girl Receives Degree at Columbia University
Miss Elva Tatman daughter of Jas F Tatman of this city earned a Bachelor of Science from Teachers College Columbia University in New York City. The 5007 strong class received diplomas in an open air ceremony attended by about fifteen thousand people. Dr Butler awarded degrees and seven honorary degrees were conferred. James W Russell dean of Teachers College led his last class. Tatman, a public school and Central State Normal graduate, taught in Saginaw before entering the university and will hold a summer position there.

Clare High Wins Last Game From Midland
Clare High defeated Midland 18 to 0 in the season finale on the local diamond. Clare pounded out 17 hits and showed clear superiority. The team enjoyed a very successful season with only three seniors Frank Allen Wally Johnson and Alwyn Cluley. Rex Robinett will be ineligible next year after eight semesters.

Rosebush Boys Win First Game in Thrilling Victory
In a packed Ward Field opener Rosebush defeated Clare 3 to 2 after a slow start by Clare. Duncan and Oden pitched well for Clare as Rosebush built a three run lead in the first inning. Clare rallied but could not reach home plate again, promising an exciting baseball season for Clare.

Juniors Fetes Seniors at Hotel Doherty
The annual junior and senior banquet for Clare High School was held last Friday night in the Doherty Hotel main dining room. Buff and gold decor, rose buds, and an owl theme framed the event with 108 guests. Warden Pettit Nabs Violators On Local Lakes
Last Friday Game Warden C. E. Pettit arrested Geo McCormick and John Mattern of Saginaw for fishing on Littlefield lake. They pled guilty before Justice Wardorf at Mt Pleasant and were fined including costs $15.50 each. Archie Youman pled guilty Monday to spearing fish in the Middle Branch of the Tobacco river and paid $15.25. William and Patrick Lobbe of Mt Pleasant paid $13.70 each Monday before Justice Waldorf for fishing on Stevenson lake.

Former Harrison Lady Killed in Accident
Mrs. L. H. Harris known as Mrs. Seitz, a Harrison restaurant owner, died instantly when a Buick driven by her son in law skidded on gravel near North Bradley and overturned while en route with her husband and daughter to a family reunion at Houghton Lake. Mr. Harris was badly injured and taken to Hurley hospital. the younger couple had minor injuries.

City water tank being cleaned and painted
Workmen have cleaned and painted the interior of the 75,000 gallon city park water tank over two weeks. A new spider support was installed. A new sanitary drinking fountain is in the park and the engine house drain fixed. Park lights may be repaired for evening illumination this season.

Firemen Make Record Run in City Roof Fire
The city fire department rushed from homes to Mrs James Arrand's house Tuesday afternoon where a roof blaze had begun to spread. Firefighters, who were at work elsewhere, sprinted five blocks to the hall and extinguished the fire in three and a half minutes.
