A Clare high school picnic on Eight Point Jake ends in tragedy as fifteen year old Marguerite Irwin drowns after a boat collision and capsizing. Leonard and Leon Stanley and Francis Greer rescue others. Marguerite and Ellen McFarland perish. Pat McConnell, who fought to save Ellen, survives after first aid. Funeral set for Saturday at 2:30 at home and 8:00 at MHE church.

Two Ladies Elected To Clare School Board

In Clare the Board of Education gains two women for the first time as Mrs. B. N. Mercer and Mrs. Frank Hochstetler win trusteeships. The election totals show Mercer 122, Lange 119. Hochstetler 131, Tibbits 100, with 243 votes cast and three scatters.

Rev Quinton Walker Dies in Battle Creek

News arrived of the death of Rev Quinton S Walker of Battle Creek on a Wednesday. He had been ill since March and recently entered a sanitarium for treatment before his condition worsened. the family was notified last week. He served as pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church here from 1908 to 1918 and had resided in Battle Creek for six years. The funeral is set for this afternoon in Battle Creek.

Vernon Citizen John Empey Called By Death

Vernon City residents mourn the death of John Empey who passed away Tuesday morning at his Vernon home after a nine week illness. The funeral was held Thursday afternoon with Rev. W. W. Hurd officiating and burial in Cherry Grove. a life sketch will appear in next week's Sentinel.

Car Collision on Crest of Craig Hill Injures Several

Sunday evening a head on collision on U S 27 near the crest of Craig Hill injured several people. Basil Perch and passengers including his mother and daughter suffered minor wounds with stitches, while Wm Bren and accompanying Iron Mountain party faced serious injuries. The Perch car was totaled and the Bren sedan towed to a Mt. Pleasant garage.

Last Rites for Thomas Bell Held in Pontiac

Thomas K. Bell died at 83 in Pontiac after sixty years of marriage to Margaret Lawson Wallace. Born October 24 1845 in Wentworth County Ontario he came to Michigan over 45 years ago living in Clare County and Sheridan Township. He is survived by ten children and multiple grandchildren with services conducted by Rev A P Mac Donald at his East 6th Street home and interment at Cherry Grove.

Mrs Anna Husted Dies in Saginaw Age 68

Mrs Anna Husted born November 29 1859 in Rochestershire England died in Saginaw June 10 aged 68 years six months eleven days after long illness. She came to Canada as a child and later moved from Clare to Saginaw. She leaves three sons George Ludington Charles Grand Rapids James Saginaw and four stepdaughters. Funeral services were held in Saginaw with Rev H B Johnson officiating and interment in Cherry Grove.

Annual Camp Outing Planned for Clare Boys

Rev H B Johnson leads a group of Clare boys to a nearby lake on Monday June 25 for the annual outing.
