Electors in Clare district vote Monday on a four year school board seat and a one mill levy for Special Education to fund state aid eligible programs in Clare county. Incumbent Frank T. LaGoe seeks re election against Mrs. Joan Weldon. Polls open 7 00 am to 8 00 pm EST in the new Clare high school.
A jury found Larry Lockwood not guilty in a negligence traffic death trial over February 24 collisions near Farwell that killed Mr and Mrs Earl Towne. The May 31 Clare County case before Circuit Judge Donald E Holbrook ended with acquittal after about 24 hours of deliberation.
June 2 update shows Bears 4 wins Lions 3 Colts 3 Cubs 1 Tigers 1 Rams 0. Rams beat Bears 28-1 after a Tuesday game, with errors and control issues by Bear pitchers. Colts beat Rams 12-5 May 26, Tigers swept by Lions and Cubs May 28 31, Lions and Tigers each homer by McNerney and Geno.
Robert Rowley announces his candidacy for sheriff of Clare County on the Republican ticket. He says he already collected enough signatures to qualify for the primary and will begin campaigning once petitions are filed. Rowley, a Grant township resident, runs a Clare gas station business.
The 1962 Clare county Cancer Drive target was 1700 dollars and donations surpassed it with a total of 1815.79. Harrison’s Mrs. Van Tassel led with 440 dollars, and Clare bar venues contributed through certi ficate displays. Crusade chair Josephine Koch thanks contributors and urges remaining envelopes be returned within a week.

Farwell businessman Don Luce announced his bid for the Republican nomination to represent Isabella and Clare counties in the Michigan legislature. He aims to unseat incumbent Russell Strange, whose district popularity has waned after sponsoring a contested gas tax bill. Luce, 55, is a real estate broker, Christmas tree grower, bank director, and Farwell School Board trustee with deep local ties.
An agency in Clare has organized a central rental listing service at The Fors Berg Agency to assist Beaver Tool and Engineering Corporation staff relocating from Gaylord. The housing center will compile listings and connect owners with new renters, offering free listing to landlords by September 1 while service is limited to Beaver employees for the time being.
Mrs Irene Muterspaugh hosted a Sunday family event to celebrate her birthday and honor Mt. Pleasant High School graduates Avis and Lois Muterspaugh of the class of 1962. The gathering included a noon dinner and a supers. Local relatives and friends from Spokane Washington to Oil City joined the note.

Miss Effie Hales will present Bibles to second grade graduates. Vacation Church School begins Monday June 11 from 9 15 to 11 30 daily for children through sixth grade. Three men and Rev Parker attended the Spring Laymen meeting in South Haven to discuss how the church becomes the Body of Christ.

Women’s Committee reports Rural-Urban dinner workers named for October and June 5 meeting at Raymond home. Board to send two youths to the Young Peoples camp at Clear Lake June 11–15. June meeting at the apeen White home.
Four Clare Fire Department members joined a Chippewa Lake tri county meeting this week. Chief Stanley Parish and firefighters John Rodabaugh Bill Schaeffer and Joe Greer viewed films on modern fire fighting methods and effectiveness. About five departments from Clare Osceola and Isabella counties participated and roughly 100 attendees shared dinner.
Orley Stockwell veteran of several terms on the Clare County Board of Supervisors died at his Harrison home last week and was buried Monday. He also served on the Clare County Republican Committee.
Seventy five members of Clare High School will graduate at the 75th Annual Commencement Friday evening in the high school gymnasium. Dr. Lester W. Anderson of the University of Minnesota will give the address as diploma presentations by Frank T. LaGoe occur after the processional and recessional by the Clare High School Band.

The Rosebush Chamber of Commerce hosted a meeting at the White Wagon Restaurant on Monday evening at 8 with President Jack Robinson introducing Clem BeMent of Mt. Pleasant Chamber who spoke on uniting county chambers to boost growth. Norm Poeppleman of WCRM Clare and Howard Sommers of CMU Field Services offered ideas to attract tourists as Michigan ranks high in tourism. Mrs. Florence Bullard served homemade donuts and coffee.
A voter referendum in Clare County seeks approval for a 1 mill tax to fund a universal Special Education program. The plan aims to extend school capacity, bring in qualified staff, reduce dropouts, and cover up to 75 percent of program costs with state aid, benefiting over 389 children.
The first annual Land O Lakes Open field trials for hunting dogs occur at the Tobacco River Hunting Club this Saturday and Sunday. Host Alex Strange oversees Derby and Puppy Class trials Saturday at 1 PM, and Sunday features qualifying at 8 AM with Hunting Dog competition at 8 and Open All Age afterward. Trial chairman Robert Pinaire of Clare presides.
Michigan's bass season opens June 1, the earliest in years, granting about 30 weeks of fishing for the Midwestern gamiest fish. Regulations remain the same as last year with a 10 inch minimum size and a five fish daily limit for large and smallmouth bass, singly or combined, while the opening date moves earlier to catch bass at peak fishing. The Department of Conservation notes the change in its publication Michigan Fish and How to Catch Them.

The Clare chapter of Future Homemakers of America held its May 22 installation at 7 30 p m naming officers for 1962 63 President Doris Winter Vice President Roxanne Schroeder Secretary Reporter Helen Penrose Treasurer Jo Anne Carrow Parliamentarian Janet Walters Historian Judy Horn Songleader Donna Andrews Chapter Mothers Mrs Carrow and Mrs Schroeder Each officer received a red rose. Roxanne Schroeder presented a corsage to adviser Mrs Vermon.
The Clare Church of God will run Daily Vacation Bible School June 11 to 15 from 9:00 to 11:30 am for ages 4 to 16. Directors are Mrs. Hazel Messer and Mrs. Ruth Carey. Themed Friends of Jesus, funds go to underprivileged Kentucky mountain children. Closing program Sunday June 17 in the chapel. Picnic July 7 at 4:30 pm in Clare Tourist Park with a 6:00 pm pot luck supper. Gale Hettrick spoke at the prayer service.
