David Adams Named Clare City Clerk and Treasurer
David Adams appointed city clerk and treasurer of Clare by the city commission to succeed Alex McKinnon who retires after 23 years. Adams, a 1946 Clare high school graduate and Army veteran, will start July 1 after working at Brackart Motor Sales since 1953. He and wife Barbara Chaffee have a son Mike. Father Son Pairs Highlight Clare Rotary Induction
Rotary club members welcomed a new inductee at a Wednesday noon ceremony at the Doherty hotel. The event marked the third father son pair in the club, with leaders noting established pairs such as George White and son John White, Stuart and James Bicknell, and John Schell. Rural residents slow to seek Clare district board seats
After months of planning for rural representation on the Clare Reorganized School District board, no rural candidates had filed by week’s end for the July 9 election. One seat opens due to term expiration, with a second possible seat if annexation decisions allow. Petitions by twenty five qualified electors must be in by June 19. petitions available at the Superintendent’s office.

Wallace DePew Drowns at Stevenson Lake
Wallace DePew an 18 year old Clare High School freshman died after disappearing while swimming with friends at Stevenson Lake. Michigan State Police and Isabella County Sheriff's deputies assisted in the search after a homemade raft was used to launch from the south shore. The rolling farmland area home of his parents on the Rolland Thayer farm was noted.

Opening Day Warms Clare Little League Season
Clare’s Little League opened its second season with a doubleheader at the improved ball park. The Tigers crushed the Cubs 24 to 2 as John Barber hit two homers and drove in five. Lions defeated Bears 5-1 behind Jerry Russell’s pitching and two Lions' hits. Field upgrades included new fence and dugouts funded by local sponsors.

Drinking Driver Fined In Court Here
Clare Municipal Court heard Edward Joseph Séféfic plead guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol and fined $64.30. Donald W. Hatek paid $14.30 for drunkard disorderly conduct. Police had arrested them on McEwan Street early that day. A third driver, Martin Hartman, was ticketed for failure to yield right of way after a collision with Richard Zinser on McEwan Street. A similar incident was investigated on June 4. An attempted break-in was reported at Tim Cotter’s auto sales, with a broken glass door observed Tuesday morning.

Clarence Davis Burned In Gasoline Fire Near Beaverton
Clarence Davis of Hagis community was burned last week delivering gas to a farm near Beaverton. He was rushed to Gladwin Hospital with burns covering most of his body from the waist up, determined mainly third degree. Davis, who drove the gas truck for eighteen years, did not know the cause of the blaze.
