Widow of WWII veteran first aided by new VA GI Insurance

The widow of a World War II air service veteran received the full $10,000 GI Insurance benefit after his death less than a week after he filed for the program. The veteran served 840 flying hours as an aerial engineer with a troop carrier wing in Europe and had let lapse his National Service Life Insurance. The new program opened May 1 1965 and runs until May 2 1966, offering up to $10,000 to eligible veterans with service connected disabilities or severe non service related risk, with premiums funded by a $424 monthly rider paid by each veteran.
