Asine Couple Expand Princess Theatre in Clare
In 1922 Mr and Mrs John Asine purchased the Princess theatre from H T McKerring on November 22. They expanded the lobby added a brick front and extra seating. A Wurlitzer organ was installed, and lots north and west were bought for an el shaped property. An 86 by 130 foot building with rock finish and fireproof design was begun with architect R V Gay of St Johns and builder Edward Wobig of Saginaw. The stage measures 25 by 22 feet and the screen 15 by 20. The venue will feature enhanced lighting, electric fixtures from Clare Electric, Hagil Symplex heating, and a four hundred eighty five person capacity with mahogany woodwork and new rest rooms. A free month pass invites guesses to the theatre’s name as the Asines push forward with this prideful project.
