Sheriff seeks two deputies to handle growing patrol load

Clare County Sheriff Raymond Lippold Jr asked the County Commissioners for two additional deputies after a hectic weekend with 117 complaints. He noted current staff includes two deputies on patrol, an under sheriff, two turnkeys, and a summer marine deputy, with costs estimated at about 12 500 yearly. The request was referred to the sheriff's committee as the county budgets are reviewed.

WCRM seeks FCC transfer to Clare broadcaster Jim Sanzone

An FCC transfer application seeks to move control of Bi County Broadcasting Corp, licensee of WGRM and WCRM-FM, from K & H Inc and Charles Bennett to Jim Sanzone of Clare. Sanzone would become majority stockholder upon approval. Sanzone has resided in Clare since 1968 and is married with infant daughter Wendy Marie.

Narcotics Symposium Planned by Clare Hospital

A narcotics symposium sponsored by Clare Osteopathic Hospital will be at the Ideal Theatre next Tuesday at 8 p.m. Clare County officials including police officers the Sheriff’s department clergy school officials and judges Jon Ringleberg and Wayne Berg will participate along with Mrs Wood director of the hospital nursing staff. Public attendance urged.

Glen Thomas elected president of Glare Board of Education

Glen Thomas was elected president at the Glare Board of Education's Monday organizational meeting. Forrest Sogge was re elected secretary, Joseph Johnston named treasurer, and the board chose Citizens Bank and Trust Co. as depository. The administration was authorized to invest surplus funds in certificates of deposit and Bicknell and Winter named as school attorneys.

Attendance rules studied by Clare Public Schools board

The Clare Board of Education discussed attendance categories Absent School Excused Truancy and Absent Not School Excused after concerns over a student skip day. No action was taken but clearer handbook definitions were urged. A student committee will draft recommendations and survey readers in the Clare Sentinel to gauge attendance guidelines.

City adopts cemetery rules at July meeting

Clare's Cherry Grove cemetery gains year style rules to curb vandalism and ease upkeep. Locks set 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., headstones placed on the east end, shrubs limited, and only one flower arrangement per lot, with sexton controls. Public hearing set for a modular home permit on E7th St. and three building permits approved including a $13,400 residence on Orchard St.
