Clare Adopts Parking Meters With Local Approval
The Clare meter system started Monday with favorable reviews from farmers and tourists who say they can now find a place to park. Meters operate weekdays 8 am to 6 pm and Saturdays 8 am to 9 pm with free parking evenings Sundays and holidays. One hour limits on McEwan Street and two hours on other business streets apply. penalties for overparking or slugging are warned by Chief Charles Covell and police.

Girls Will Not Be Neglected In Play Program
The boys bath house was moved near the swimming hole on Tobacco River with privacy upgrades. Lumber and posts were donated and the project should be ready by Monday. Two Arrests For Alleged Rape In Past Week
William Holbrook of Clare faced a statutory rape and indecent liberties charge after a 15 year old Harrison girl’s father filed the complaint. Holbrook was bound over for examination on $2000 bond. Harold Dale Forsyth of Marion was arraigned for statutory rape and indecent liberties with a 12 year old Farwell girl and released on $2000 bond. A friend, Charles Szeliteo of Marion, reportedly interceded for Forsyth and was beaten by the girl’s father. Szeliteo was hospitalized with concussion and facial injuries and his condition improved by Thursday afternoon.

The Farwell Rural Agricultural School Board announced G R Bogan as superintendent for the coming year. He has taught in rural schools 1910 to 1912, earned a BS from Michigan State College in 1916, an MA from the University of Michigan in 1931, and served as district superintendent at Clare Coleman Fairgrove from 1927 to 1944, then as agricultural instructor at Marion 1944 to 1947. The school opens September 2 and Bogan is to announce his faculty.

Crowley Dies After Requiem High Mass
Joseph M. Crowley of Vernon township Isa pella county died Thursday July 3 at age 98. He was born May 19 1875 in Mt. Carmel Canada and moved to Vernon with his parents at age two. He married Isabel la J McConnell and had one daughter Mary Ann who died in infancy. Survived by wife brother Ted sister Mrs Hugh McQuire and several nieces and a nephew. Burial July 7 at St. Henrys cemetery after a Requiem High Mass led by Rev Gordon Grant.

Fabrication of Distributors for 1948 Fords Begins at Clare Plant
Production started this week at Clare Manufacturing Company’s new distributor plant on West Fifth Street for 1948 Ford engines. The 20,000 square foot fireproof facility includes modern offices, a 150-seat cafeteria, rest rooms, a teletype link to Detroit and Portland plants, a 100 car lot, and an auto gail system. The plant features extensive lighting, glass, and employee amenities, with initial fabrication of six and eight cylinder Ford distributors and a mailroom, shipping area, and first aid facilities.

Bauer Flying Service Receives State Certification for GI Flight Training
The Bauer Flying Service at Clare Airport is among 223 Michigan GI Flight Schools certified by the Michigan Department of Aeronautics to renew VA training contracts for 1947 1948. Colonel Floyd H Evans notes recertification is required to meet the new Michigan GI Flight Training Curriculum. Michigan leads in veterans flight training with over 15 000 enrollees and 25 percent of national flight training activity. The state also certified 42 ground schools 38 run by public schools.
