Harrison Hosts Weekend Sled Dog Races
The Great Lakes Sled Dog Association and International Sled Dog Racing Association bring two days of races to Harrison January 24-25 at Four Seasons of the North. Co chairs James Bicknell and Wendell Pietchak announce events from 11 a.m. with 5 to 14 dog classes, prize money in the 7 dog and unlimited divisions, plus weight pulling and children’s races. Sunday begins at 9 a.m. with trophy distribution at 3 p.m.

State pays tax aid on state lands to Michigan counties
Michigan Department of Natural Resources mailed over 1.9 million dollars to 61 counties as payment in lieu of taxes for 3.5 million acres of state owned land. The payments of 54 cents per acre are distributed to school districts, counties, and townships with about 37 percent to schools and roughly 31.5 percent to each local government type. Luce County received the largest share at 140,752 dollars.
