Mt Pleasant State Police with Clare County Prosecutor raid the Old Schoolhouse Snowmobile Club in Freeman Township near Windover Lake. George Victor of Lake George charged with operating an unlicensed club and possessing an unregistered pistol, plus insufficient funds. About 12 patrons released. beer seized. Victor held on $500 bond awaiting arraignment.

Leota Grade Snowmobile Trail Opens in Clare County
Leota Grade trail opens about 40 miles in Clare County starting at the west end of Harrison Airport and following the Muskegon River to Leota. Built with the DNR, Uld’s Sno-Mobile Sales and Motel, and the Clare Co Extension Office, it may also be used for hiking in warm months and could feed a future Harrison to Mackinaw snowmobile system.

Surrey Township Bonds Awarded for New Hall and Fire Truck
Citizens Bank & Trust of Clare and the Farwell State Savings Bank won the $75,000 Surrey Township bond bid. The 15 bonds of $5,000 each finance a township hall with police and fire stations, four-truck fire dept, community room, and two offices. Building under construction on North Superior St in Farwell. County Receives Federal Funds for Road Aid
Clare County will get 53388 in Federal Aid Secondary funds for 1970 1971 from the Department of State Highways. Michigan counties share nearly 107 million in FAS funds with 66 percent to counties and 34 percent to the Highway Department. Harrison Adopts Guidance on Snowmobile Use in City
Harrison City Council approved a voluntary set of snowmobile guidelines amid complaints about speed noise and property intrusion. Forest Road tree cutting bid in Clare County project
The Clare County Road Commission awarded Shepard's Tree and Landscaping the contract to cut about 120 trees on Forest Road in Winterfield Township. The low bid was 9.50 per tree, with Wood's Contracting as the only other bidder. The $50,000 project funds widening grading and paving, to be shared by the county and township.

Circus Trip For Local Fifth Graders Scheduled
Some 520 fifth graders from Clare Harrison Coleman and Farwell will attend the Shrine Circus Saturday the 17th with 160 from Clare School. They depart at 8 a.m. by school buses with Shriners as chaperones. The 26th annual Shrine Circus runs January 17 to 24 at the Saginaw Auditorium with tickets available through Shriners. Special banks are extended to Clare Clubs Kiwanis Civitan Rotary and Jaycees for milk fund contributions.

Beer and Tobacco Theft At Seat's Grocery Lake George
State Police report intruders broke into Seat's Grocery Store in Lake George late Saturday night or Sunday morning. A large quantity of beer and wine and about 66 cartons of cigarettes were stolen after gaining access through the adjacent post office. The post office reported nothing missing and the case is under investigation.
