A December storm brought rain and snow across the region turning rain into sleet and snow at times. Motorists faced dangerous conditions as the weather shifted from mild to severe with cold days and blizzard-like snowfall. Mrs. Johanna Mack fell at her home and was shaken up but is recovering. Mrs. Woolston broke a large bone in her leg in a car incident while traveling to Birdsall. she was hospitalized after the accident.

Two Cars Collide Near East City Limits in Fog
Two cars damaged in a Thursday morning collision on the curve beside TUS-10 near the east city limits. Carl Brown of Flint eastbound and Lee Buschere of Detroit westbound could not avoid a tail spin in foggy, slippery pavement. John Raymond of Arthur Township was arrested Tuesday afternoon by Deputy Sheriff Henry Doll on charges of resisting and assaulting an officer. The incident began in the ERA office at City Hall when Raymond disrupted proceedings and struck the deputy, causing a bruised cheek. He was bound over to the Circuit Court after a Tuesday night preliminary examination before Justice Kylie McKinn and remanded to Sheriff George Bates with a $500 bond secured by two sureties.

A settlement was announced in Mt. Pleasant before Judge Ray Hart after four days of testimony. Twenty seven farmers from Vernon and Wise townships Isabella County sued 13 oil companies over brine pollution damaging riparian lands streams wells and livestock with Mammoth Petroleum Corp named in the first trial. About 100 per plaintiff would be paid with all suits withdrawn. The brine allegedly entered McDonald creek drain in the Vernon oil field affecting rivers that feed Saginaw Bay.
