A series of eight lessons to teach servicing and fabrication of tractors is organized with four Clare implement dealers and county agents. Sessions cover safety air cleaner fuel system electrical hydraulic lubrication cooling and transmission. First meeting January 12 at Fullerton and Son Oliver agency starting 7:30 p.m.

West Grant School Opens After Holiday Break
The West Grant School resumed Monday morning after the holiday. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Squires on their New Year wedding. The children's grandmother, Mrs. Charles Heber, cares for the kids during the couple’s wedding trip. Mrs. Nellie Barber is ill and confined to bed awaiting recovery. Sympathy extended to the family of Mr. Eugene Stanley who has died.

Furacin Emerges as Effective Coccidiosis Control for Poultry
A new drug furacin, derived from oat hulls and farm wastes, shows promise against chicken coccidiosis. Trials compare favorably with sulfa drugs, offering less toxicity and smaller required doses, with costs potentially lower overall despite limited current supply.
DDT Emulsion Controls Flies in Poultry House
A 1 percent DDT emulsion sprayed on poultry manure two days before removal achieved complete fly control at the Hawaii Agricultural Experiment Station. Application rate was one pint per 30 square feet. Adding lime twice weekly reduced odor moisture and flies but seemed to lessen DDT efficiency.

2 4 D Formulas Classified In Three Major Forms
2 4 D is insoluble in water so it is made soluble with other chemicals to form numerous formulations. These are grouped as ester amine or sodium salt sprays and also as ester amine dusts and sodium salt dusts. Ester and amine sprays are liquids, sodium salt sprays are powders. 2 4 D is widely used as a weed killer.
Zinc coating limits rust in wire tests at Indiana lab
Ten year tests at Indiana indicate wire with less than a half ounce of zinc coating per square foot rusted completely. Samples with more than one ounce of zinc coating showed no rust. Stainless steel and copper clad samples resisted rust, while lead clad samples had about one third of the area discolored.

Resolutions To Improve Farming On Soil Conservation

County Agent Offers Seed Price List and Otter Rearing Note
Clare County farmers can obtain a list of certified seed growers and prices from the County Agent. The Michigan Crop Improvement Association set 1948 seed crop prices on December 23. Interest centers on Eaton oats for yield and disease resistance and Bay barley for head stability in combines. Otter young are taught by their mother rather than by instinct.
