New Road on U S 27 Links Six Feet Sinkhole Detour
A portion of the trunk line road on U S 27 sank about six feet last Friday near eight miles north of the city, requiring a two mile detour east on the Cornwell farm road to bypass dangerous curves. A cut through the hills is to remove the muck and create fills, with dirt used parallel to the failed road. The detour adds four miles between Clare and Harrison, and authorities cite the sinkhole as caused by weight on mucky soil.
