George Siel of 108 West First Street Clare has a huge record collection totaling 3027 discs plus more than 100 older 78s. He also owns 16 rpm talking books and the latest stereo systems with AM and FM radio. The collection grows as payday approaches at the Sentinel where he works.
Clare High basketball team falls 60-53 at Chesaning while fighting for a fourth place tie in Mid-Michigan standings. Tim Haring leads Clare with 22 points. Tom Setter, Frank Sambera, Jam Peter pace Chesaning. Next game at St Louis after postponement.
Alex Gavin of Long Lake, a skilled knitting teacher, will lead a series of knitting classes in the area. Beginners and advanced groups possible if there is interest, with information by mail to those who sign up through the Extension Office.
The Board of Education approved a new salary schedule for the 1965-66 school year with starting salaries of 4600 for bachelors and 4900 for masters. Maximum salaries rise to 6900 and 7200 respectively, with ten years to reach the top and five years transferable from other schools. The board also reviewed the Citizens Study Committee questionnaires and discussed next year's instructional priorities.
In Clare a Boy Scout Klondike Derby is set for Saturday at Camp Rotary just north of town. West-side team members Ken Teall Robbie Siel Tom Sports race for the sled include clashes in conditioning trials as the eight boys pull their craft. Local promotion notes report a net $851.69 from entries and banquet sales. Prize winners include Connie Sears for a RCA television, Martha Crawford and John Ward for bicycles, Marlin Alexander for $50, and Robert Walters for $100, all from Clare and area.
A special primary Monday will narrow four candidates for circuit judge to two. In the race are Ro bert Campbell Henry Hart Stephen Fox and James Rood. The two top vote getters advance to the April 5 election for circuit judge with electors in Clare Midland and Isabella counties urged to vote at their regular polling places.
Supervisors revive a courthouse project by forming a building authority to finance and manage construction. The plan uses fees from sheriff, treasurer, and probate to cover lease payments and interest, avoiding new taxes or bonds. The 1965 budget relies on surpluses and careful saving to fund the building, with the 340000 project set to include court rooms and county offices.
Clare High School hosts visitors from twelve industries on Tuesday March 23. Grades 9 through 12 will learn about opportunities in oil food tourism small manufacturing health construction chemical utilities civil service agriculture trucking and banking.
Lloyd Conley announces Clare High School winter concert in the gym on February 18. The program includes three numbers prepared for the Senior Band District Festival at Whittemore later this month, featuring an overture a popular march and Fantasy On American Sailing Songs along with sacred music a Civil War Suite pep numbers and more.
In Clare County schools 239 seventh and eighth graders have joined the 4-H TV Science Club, covering South and Sixth grade participants.
