Baby Dies in East Dunlop Road Fire
Fire at the Wilson home on East Dunlop Road early Friday afternoon killed nine month old Lloyd Leroy Wilson. Delbert Wilson and five daughters survived, while Duane, age five, suffered second degree burns. The home suffered about $2,000 in damage. furnishings were uninsured. Funeral services were held at Thurston Funeral Home with burial in Surrey Tyewlty Cemetery Farwell.

Rick W Rickels Dies at Gilmore Home in 1946
Rick W Rickels, longtime Gilmore township resident, died at his home at 12:35 am Saturday after two years of ill health. Born August 3 1867 at Stony Ridge Ohio, he moved to Michigan in 1894 with his wife Anna Wixon Rickels. He leaves wife, two sons Lyle and Ernest, daughter Nellie Hoag, daughter Alice, seven grandchildren, and a brother and sister. Funeral was held from Gilmore Church with Odd Fellows in charge. Burial at Gilmore Cemetery.

White Jewelry Store Robbers Confess Crime
Grand Rapids dispatch reports four arrests in a spree of jewelry store robberies and car thefts. Alexander Gliva and Madeline Wisniewski, Detroit residents, were jailed after a chase. Muskegon suspects Alexander Sochowski and Mildred Nulf captured in a stolen car. The group admitted to multiple robberies including Grand Rapids, Muskegon, Battle Creek, Clare, and Saginaw, with Nulf also confessing to numerous car thefts. All four denied murder of Arba Hawley. Nulf implicated Gliva in another robbery and Guttenberg case. A purse believed to be Guttenberg’s was found with Gliva, who said he found it in Capac. Further questioning planned.

Edgar Stanley Dies After Long Illness at 51
Edgar Ambrosier Stanley, born July 25, 1876 in North Robinson Ohio, died Monday January 28 after a long illness. He served in the Spanish American War, worked twenty years on the Pennsylvania railroad, then eighteen years delivering mail before retirement. He leaves a son Edgar R., three brothers O C, GC R, and T H Stanley, and his wife Henriene Be Stich preceded him in death in 1944. Funeral held at Farwell Methodist Church with Rev. State Pays $18 to Spikehorn Meyer in Bear Dispute
John E. Meyer known as Spikehorn, Clare County bear keeper, received 18 dollars from the state conservation commission after a fee dispute over witness costs from a court action last September. The case, for possessing wild animals without a permit, was settled out of court. Meyer had deposited 80 dollars to summon officials. he sought interest and additional refunds but was denied. He keeps twelve bears and accepted the payout.
