Central Michigan Funeral Directors Association met at Thurston Funeral Home for a regular meeting on Thursday evening January 30. A banquet at Dunlop Cafe featured roast turkey and ample service by Mrs. Dunlop and staff. President absent, Harry Rogers presided. two members were away in Florida. The association formed at Thurston’s in June 1927, now 26 members, a strong, active group. Next meeting to be in Gladwin with Harry Rogers on February 2.

Clare Good Literature Club Holds Annual Meeting
The Clare Good Literature club met through one of winter's worst storms with about thirty members. Officers were elected including President Susan Foell and Vice President Stella Holden. Mrs Jane Davy Keschnan gave two solo selections and Adel aide Elden reviewed The Cross of Peace by Philip Gibbs, praised for its plea for peace and harmony. Mrs Hiden's report was praised as splendid and the evening was enjoyed at Mrs Sarah Schaeffer's home for the February 18 meeting.

Eighty Six Cases Reported by Pros Att to Clare County
Prosecuting attorney Theo G Bowler filed a six month report with the Auditor General at Lansing showing eighty six persons prosecuted in Clare County through December 31. Offenses include rape with six prosecutions and 12 to 41 year punishments, breaking and entering two cases with 3 to 10 year sentences, and violations of conservation law yielding 1281 dollars in fines. Other items cover assault and battery, larceny, reckless driving, speeding, incests, fraudulently obtaining goods, and improper licenses with various fines, costs, probation, or suspended sentences. Restitution ordered in fraud cases.
