Clare Hardware and Furniture Co employees won two first prizes in a national Bendix contest for sales of Bendix laundry equipment. Kenneth Ritter earned a Bendix automatic washer for top sales over quota in August, and Richard Ruckle won an eight day trip to New Orleans for highest sales above quota during the four months. The trip began January 10 from Chicago with stops in St. Louis and New Orleans, including meals, hotel stays, tours, and a Pensacola Gulf Coast outing.

Anna Bertha Heuschele born February 16 1882 in Bimbach Germany died January 29 1948 after a car accident injuries and kidney illness. She came to Michigan at age five settled in Grant Township Clare and spent her life there. Funeral held February 1 at St John s Ev Lutheran Clare with burial at Cherry Grove. survivors include two sisters Mrs William Gorcon Sr and Mrs Fred Timm and several nephews and nieces.

Runyon faces grand larceny charge in Clare County
Donald Runyon 18 of Clare was arrested by the Mt Pleasant State Police on a grand larceny charge. Authorities say he confessed to stealing three 500 gallon oil tanks a beam pump and 256 feet of iron pipe from a Redding township site last November. The value was about 1200 dollars and authorities recovered parts in Ithaca. Runyon was arraigned at Harrison and released on 1500 dollar bond.
