Winter Carnival at Lake Shamrock draws record crowds
Clare reports the Winter Carnival a resounding success with near 3 000 hot dogs eaten 1 200 cakes 800 hot chocolates 50 pounds of popcorn and all cotton candy sold Some 2 500 visitors attended the two day event on Saturday and Sunday Festivities included a snowmobile parade 34 machines planned but over 90 participated plus games fishing golf and a dinner dance awards and raffles highlighted by prizes such as a 1970 Skidoo and snowmobile gear Local Chamber of Commerce officials praised volunteers and attendees for making the affair a success.

Snowmobile Crash Injures Two in Clare County
A man and a woman were hurt in a snowmobile collision on Hemlock Road near Mannsidding in Clare County Saturday evening. Josephine E. O'Brien and Quitman A. Moffet were taken to Clare Osteopathic Hospital with leg and arm injuries and hand injuries respectively. no citations were issued and the crash is under investigation.

Clare County 4-H Club Leaders elect new officers
Floyd Koerner of Harrison was elected president of the Clare County 4-H Club Leaders and Parents Association. Also elected were William Montney of Clare vice president Mrs. Dorothy Baumer of Harrison secretary and Mrs. Shirley Rilette of Clare treasurer. It was suggested Koerner and Mrs. Betty Ray attend the 4-H leader convention in March at Michigan State University. Ray Gillaspie from the state 4-H staff spoke on the origins of the organization.
