Former Clare Man Dies at Mt Pleasant
After months of illness Andy Dubois of Mt Pleasant died at his home Wednesday at 9 30 in the morning. He lived in Clare for many years and worked as an operator at the electric plant and at the mill dam. The funeral will be from J E Doherty's residence Saturday at 2 30 in the afternoon with Rev H B Johnson officiating. Interment will be in the local cemetery. The obituary will follow next week.

A blaze at the Phinisey School house two miles south and one mile east of Clare occurred Friday evening around seven. Believed incendiary, the fire started near the furnace with papers and other items. Paving Contract Awarded for U. S.27 in Gratiot County
The highway committee awarded a 12 mile paving contract on U. S.27 in Gratiot County. Six miles south from Ithaca will be paved this year and the remaining six next year. Delegations pressed for the project at the state administrative board and at the capitol.

James Bawkey Dies at Eighty Four in Gilmore Township
The last rites for James Bawkey were held Sunday, conducted by the I. O. O. F. lodge and Rev. Johnson, with interment in Surrey cemetery. Bawkey, who came from Ohio thirty six years ago to the Bawkey settlement in Gilmore township, left a widow earlier, three sons James Frank and an infant, and three daughters Annie Qarrias Lydia Winters and Caroline Bearse. Survived by eight siblings and many relatives. death at eighty four.
