Deaths Russell Alger of Clare in Dearborn
Russell Alger son of the late Byron and Jennie Alger of Clare died at his Dearborn home Friday January 26 after a short illness, having retired from the railroad in December. He leaves a wife two daughters and a sister Mrs Cora Bell of Dearborn. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in Dearborn. The deceased was a cousin of Mrs Homer Douglas and Howard Brown of Clare.

Kenneth Hendershot testified as the trial, over December 13 killing of Clare attorney Joseph K. Naumes, neared its end on Thursday. An overflow crowd filled Harrison Courtroom with spectators standing in aisles and corridors during witness testimony from Mrs. Naumes and Hendershot.

An explosion at the Thurston Funeral Home in the basement around 5:15 pm Thursday wrecked the building causing $25 000 to $30 000 in damage. Mr and Mrs Thurston were in a bedroom and escaped injury though bruised. Tex Vernon and Mrs Thurston were shaken but unharmed. their five month old puppy Candy also escaped. The Clare Wire Department put out flames that sparked after the blast.

City Engineer Cleo Brink Injured In Auto Crash
Clare City Engineer Cleo A. Brink aged 61 suffered fractured ribs in a head on collision south of Shepherd on US 27. Brink was treated at Central Michigan Hospital and later returned home to Jackson. Driver Robert L. Curtis 20 of Shepherd had head and face lacerations. Curtis was cited for failing to yield right of way. Damages were estimated at 800 dollars for Brink’s car and 350 for Curtis’s. A young Clare resident lost part of a finger in a separate incident involving car bumpers.
