Two Disastrous Fires Near Clare In A Week
Two fires struck near Clare in the past week. The Glenn Poet farm barn near Clare burned, destroying fourteen head of Brown Swiss cattle and farm equipment, with loss estimated at 7000 dollars insured for 5220. Joe Poet, 14, bravely helped save cattle before flames spread. A grain mill and silo roof were damaged. Clare Fire Department arrived too late. The second blaze destroyed a two story stone home on the George Vandewarker farm five miles north and three and a half east of Clare, with six people inside.

Kraft Cheese Co Manager Receives Ten Year Award
Nearly 100 Kraft Cheese Company employees were honored December 16 for long and meritorious service. John H. Platt presented the awards on behalf of president John H. Kraft, who was ill. More than 1,900 Kraft workers are recognized for extended service. John Schell of Clare, Michigan, received a ten year award. Platt praised the employees and noted Kraft's growth while stressing the value of each worker.

Mrs. A Archbold Dies at Daughter's Detroit Home
Mrs. A J Archbold a Vernon township resident for 34 years died Saturday at her daughter Mrs Philip Goudies home in Detroit after years of ill health She was born Zula Alta Fonner May 17 1881 in Wells County Indiana and married Arthur J Archbold December 12 1899 They had seven children and nineteen grandchildren with several in the armed forces She joined Evangelical Church at sixteen later Methodist Church active in Red Cross and Mt Vernon Grange Services were held December 26 at Doher ty Funeral Home with interment in Cherry Grove cemetery

Gilmore Pioneer William Colosky Dies at Home
William Colosky longtime Gilmore township resident died at his Colosky homestead on December 19 1944 aged 79 years nine months and seventeen days. He was born April 2 1865 in Canada and came to the U S as a child settling in Gilmore. He married Frances Nutt in 1887 and leaves sons Sidney Earl and others daughters Anna Appleford Irene Pringle Estella Brown and more. Funeral at Gilmore Church of Christ December 22 officiated by Pastor Howard L Krause.

Oscar Edwin Hawley born August 9 1872 in Ludington Michigan died December 26 1944 in Clare at age 72. He lived in Summit township Shelby and Clare and held farm and cooperative leadership roles including Mason County Fruit Exchange Shelby Cooperative Association and Michigan Potato Growers Exchange. He helped establish a greenhouse near his daughter Mrs Edward B White and died after a long period of declining health.

Linda Lou Louch daughter of Mr and Mrs Harold Louch of Clare died suddenly from a heart attack Saturday near Clare city hall. Born June 21 1944 in Clare she leaves parents two sisters Joyce Jean Donna Mae a brother Charles Gordon and grandparents Mr and Mrs G T Louch. Funeral services were held at Doherty Funeral Home at 460 PM Tuesday with Rev Harold Watson officiating and interment in Cherry Grove cemetery.
