War Demand For Chemicals Shortens Fertilizer Supply
Chemicals used in making fertilizers are in short supply and high demand due to war. Explosives manufacture uses the same materials, so allocation favors military needs. Farmers are urged to order fertilizer now and accept delivery when available to secure supplies and potential savings.

Antibiotics Boost Hog Feed Power at Nebraska Station
Nebraska experiment station findings show terramycin raised ton of feed pork yield by about 60 pounds. At market value, the extra gain could be worth around 12000 dollars per ton of feed. Use cost as a guide, buying only if increased production covers it. Antibiotics help turn runts into market pigs, especially when fed to young animals up to four months old.

Treated Fence Posts Will Last Years Longer
Clare County Agricultural Agent Paul D. Gibson notes that untreated white cedar fence posts decay quickly due to heart wood content. He urges farmers to treat cedar posts this season with pentachlorophenol to markedly extend life, ~four to five times, after soaking about 48 hours.
Plan now for fence posts in 1953 from treated popple
A 1953 extension notice promotes treating common popple posts with penta to reduce decay. It notes costs about a pound of chemical or 15 to 20 cents per post and cites long durability from cured posts. Demonstrations 16 years ago showed 3 to 5 percent decay. For details contact the extension agent at the courthouse.
