Clare Police Issue Good Will Parking Tickets Before Christmas
Clare police paused parking tickets during the rush to issue warning notices on expired meters. The benevolent tickets advised drivers that meters were expired with holiday wishes from the Clare Chamber of Commerce and Police Department. Police later reminded drivers to feed meters once the amnesty ended. Three accidents followed in the week: James L. Howlett, 18, collided on Pine Street and was cited for reckless driving. Ruby Garfield sustained a concussion and her husband sustained injuries in the crash. Elva Gruno received head lacerations after a fifth street collision with Dr. Harry W. Guinand driving the other car. Mary Ann Barnhart and William Corrie were involved in a backing-out incident, with Corrie cited for failure to yield right of way.

Damage In Two Fires At Rosebush
The Rosebush Fire Department responded to two fires last week. On Sunday December 15 the Norman Johnson home near Weidman Road suffered heavy interior damage due to defective wiring. Occupants were Ed Diehl and Larry Randall and Mt Pleasant aided. On Wednesday evening a fire at the Joe Baronik farm shed northwest of town destroyed tractors and tools with Mt Pleasant assisting to protect other buildings.

Skin Divers Test Winter Waters at Higgins Lake
Seventeen Michigan State Police skin divers faced a winter training test in near freezing air at Higgins Lake. They broke a 40 foot ice rim, swam up to 15 minutes underwater, and were trained since August to recover drowning victims and gather evidence in cold and balmy conditions.

The Holstein-Friesian Association of America reports two Penrose cows with record production. Carliska Penrose Maxine yielded 17,606 pounds of milk and 645 pounds of butterfat after 350 days of twice daily milking. Montfor Penrose Loreen Laura produced 16,009 pounds of milk and 673 pounds of butterfat over 357 days. Michigan State University aided weighing and testing under the Herd Improvement Registry program.
