Leo Thurl Horseman born June 14 1910 in Woodsfield Ohio died December 17 1947 in Midland Michigan aged 37. He served in the U S Army during World War II with most service in Alaska and later worked for the city of Midland. He leaves wife Joyce Baker Clare two children Marlin and Suewella a brother Fred Horseman Woodsfield Ohio a sister Virginia Daily Woodsfield Ohio two uncles Alfred Briggs Ashland Ohio and John W Briggs Woodsfield Ohio an aunt Mrs J B Miller Woodsfield Ohio and stepfather Jerome Stine Clare. A military funeral by the American Legion and W F V W of Clare county was held at Thurston Funeral Home at 2:00 pm and he was buried in Cherry Grove cemetery.

The Clare community groups led by the Clare Common Council Clare Chamber of Commerce Clare Community Council the Clare Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs with merchants and individuals donated Christmas baskets for the needy. Three Autos In Unusual Collision Here Saturday
A Hudson driven by Alicia Grill slid on ice while turning from Fifth Street onto North Beech Street at 6 10 PM Saturday. It struck a parked truck and Buick owned by Peter Cregier near city hall, pushing the Buick into a Chevrolet owned by Ray Volge of Farwell. Damage totaled 75 00 to the Cregier car and 40 00 to Volge’s car.

Improvements In Dr Borns Offices Made Last Week
Considerable improvement has been made in the offices of Dr G C Born, local chiropractor, with an additional treatment booth added and 1800 square feet of marble design linoleum laid throughout. A chiropractic emblem, designed in 23 hours, graces the reception room floor. His elk and antelope trophies from October 1946 are displayed in the interior. An east porch extension of ten by forty feet is planned for spring to create extra treatment rooms and a reception area. The same linoleum will be used in the addition.

Fire Tears Through Home Near Clare on Dec 5
On Friday December 5 a farm home two and a half miles north of Clare on US 2% burned to the ground. The Kurniks escaped with two children after kerosene stove exploded, leaving the house and contents a total loss. The couple then sheltered the children at the Fowler Noble home while insurance covered only part of the damage.

Christmas Tree Checks Show Brisk Seasonal Trade
Michigan officials and law enforcement have checked 939,732 Christmas trees for proper bills of sale. Of these, 37,191 originated in New England and 81,096 from Canada to prevent theft from public lands. About 20 percent are plantation trees grown under soil conservation programs. 42 arrests have been made for tree law violations.
