Mrs J B Brown Dies After Long Illness In Clare

Mrs J B Brown widow of a Clare businessman died at 2 20 PM Saturday at the Mater home on East Wheaton Avenue after recent illness. She was born Pauline Franklin October 21 1861 in Clearcreek Ontario and married J B Brown June 1 1881. Survivors include two sons Franklin and Lloyd, six grandchildren, one brother John T Franklin and many relatives. Funeral services were held at Doherty Funeral Home with Rev Albert Dawe. Interment in Cherry Grove cemetery.

Clare High School Christmas Vacation Begins Wednesday

Clare High School closes for Christmas with grades hosting afternoon parties. Classes resume January 4. Teachers and pupils travel to homes across Michigan with several staying in Clare during the break. Local staff plan holiday visits to Wyandotte Alma Detroit Ionia Hart Lansing and more as the district notes daily arrangements.

Clare Man Breaks Limb On Icy Pavement Saturday

A Clare resident slipped on icy pavement in the business district Saturday evening and fractured a limb. He was treated first at a local office and then at Northway Hospital in Mt. Pleasant for examination and fracture confirmation.

The majority of Clare business places will remain closed all Christmas Day and several will stay shut over the weekend, not opening until Monday morning December 28. Red Cross Blood Plasma Project Expanded Across 24 Cities

Army and Navy urge greater support for the Red Cross blood plasma program in the coming year. Since December 7 1941 about 1 126 000 pints of blood have been collected, with plasma aiding troops in North Africa Guadalcanal ships and battle zones.

Mary Gordon Dies at 84 After Long Illness

Mary Jane Jerore born in Derham Center Ontario April 7 1858 died December 20 1942 at eighty four. She moved to Michigan at twenty married John Gordon in Port Huron two years later and had six children. Funeral services held at Beiz Funeral Parlors with Rev Pehick of the Gil Horis Church officiating.

Mrs Frank Poet Dies at Daughter's Home in Sheridan Township

Mrs. Frank Poet, aged 80 years 11 months 20 days, died December 18 at her daughter Mrs Ray Bergey’s home after two years of bed confinement. Born January 7, 1862 in Wayne County, she married David Franklin Poet May 6, 1882 and settled in Sheridan Township. She leaves three children Clarence, Grace Seestedt, Florence Bergey, and Glenn, plus nineteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. two grandsons serving in the armed forces. Burial was at Cherry Grove cemetery after service at Eagle Church conducted by Rev M R Honderich and Wesley Teale.

Mrs Dick Logic a longtime Grant township resident died suddenly at her home at 1:00 pm Friday of a heart ailment. Born November 17 1895 in Poland she came to Michigan with husband Richard Logic in 1911 and leaves three daughters Martha Gibis Frances Me Dorad and Margie Reynolds two sons Bennie and Jack Gatwins five grandchildren and several relatives. Prayer services were held at 9 30 pm at the home.

George Rilett Dies at Son’s Home in Beaverton

George Rilett 88, a long time Beaverton township resident in Gladwin County, died Monday morning December 14 at the home of his son Frank after a yearlong illness. Funeral services were held at Hill Grove Church of God at 2 pm Wednesday with Rev M R Honderich officiating and burial at Coleman Cemetery. An obituary will follow in next week’s Sentinel.

Midnight Mass at St Henry’s Rosebush Tonight

Christmas Eve service at St Henry’s church in Rosebush features poinsettias evergreens and colored lights. Funeral services were held for Harvey Delbert Armentrout 38 of Sheridan township who died December 17 1942 after a brief illness. He married Beulah Teale in 1926 and leaves five children Donald Lee William Charles Lyle Ray LaVona Mae and Shirley Jean along with his sister Mrs Ray Strouse and brothers Russell and Clarence. Willard Gilman Sailor Marine Wounded in Solomons Returns

Lake correspondent reports Pvt. Willard Gilman of the U S Marines returned from Mare Island on thirty day leave after five weeks in the Solomon Islands. He was wounded in the ankle and leg near Guadalcanal, walked with a cane, and recalls leading a landing of 240 Marines at Henderson airfield amid heavy Japanese resistance. He was knocked out by a 1000 pound bomb, survived a bayonet charge, and saved a machine gun nest during a river assault. He expects to rejoin his unit once healed.

Methodist Sunday School Class Installs Bulletin Board

The Clare Methodist Church honors the Sunday School class for funding and presenting a new electrical bulletin board with an automatic time clock. Dr. Hall accepts the gift for the trustees during a dedication ceremony. The project was financed at the class Turkey Supper this fall.
