County program to recover welfare aid initiates work plan
Clare County welfare recipients face repayment under a new county program. Pat Redmond, director of social services, told the Clare County Board of Commissioners that an experimental work program using welfare recipients began last Friday at the county courthouse in Harrison.

Clare High to Host The Attic Christmas Youth Gathering
Clare High School students with faculty backing plan a holiday project called The Attic in the Masonic Hall above Gay's department store. From December 27 to 30 the youth venue will host nightly discussions on drugs violence and pollution with expert speakers, plus music by Prisoners of Time and modern subject movies with refreshments. The Attic aims to occupy youth during vacation with activities limited to students 13 and older and may extend beyond the initial days if demand remains high.

Hendrie, Clare resident, dies of heart attack at home
Kenneth William Hendrie owner of the Hendrie Packing House died of a heart attack at his Clare home Tuesday December 15. He was born June 5 1911 in Clare to George and Ethel Hendrie and lived there his life. He married Marie Bruckart October 1 1933. Surviving are Marie a sister Mrs Rodger Kleinhart Clare and a brother Jay Hendrie Coolidge Arizona. Funeral services were held December 18 at Stephenson Dowherty Funeral Home with Rev Virgil Brinkman officiating and burial at Cherry Grove Cemetery. Masonic services were held December 17 at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
