Clare School District voters defeated a 2.2 million bond proposal by about a 2 to 1 margin in a special election. Turnout was near 50 percent with 459 yes votes from 1,296 ballots cast. Officials cited tax aversion, county unemployment, and debated consolidation as possible factors.
