Herman Leichtt Dies of Apoplexy in Flint
The remains of Herman Leichtt who died Tuesday from apoplexy at Flint were brought to Clare and taken to the Friz Undertaking parlors then to his stepmother’s home. The funeral is set for Friday at 2:00 PM from the home with interment in Cherry Grove cemetery. The obituary will appear next week.

Reed City Routs Clare In Fast Local Basketball Battle
Reed City high school defeated Clare high on the local gym floor Friday night by 29 to 25 in a rapid test of offense and defense. Clare played well with Moor work and passing but costly breaks and fouls hindered their run. a Clare second team also won 18 to 12 in an exciting follow up.

Early Clare Woman Laid To Rest In Wisconsin
The funeral of Eva Herrick Smith, early Clare resident, was held at Thurston Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Bates officiating. Born January 20, 1856 in Revanna Ohio, she lived in Indiana before marrying J. D. Smith in 1878 and later Albert Smith in 1901. She died December 16 1928 at her daughter Mrs Othie L Broman’s home at age 72 years 11 months 4 days, survived by two daughters a sister a grandson two nieces and many friends.
Illness Fatal to Mrs J A Hileman
Mrs. A Hileman died after a long illness at her daughter Mrs Chas Heber’s home within 39 days of her husband’s death. She had resided with family after Mr Hileman’s passing. Funeral services will be held at the Congregational church in Harrison Saturday at 2 pm with Rev Kleinhardt conducting. Interment is in Maple Grove cemetery.

Grant Resident Returns to State Hospital After Self Harm
Oliver H. Birdsall, a Dover area resident, attempted suicide Saturday by slashing his throat with a razor. He was treated with five stitches and is expected to recover. Birdsall had been at the Traverse City State hospital since July and returned home recently in a reportedly sane condition before acting violently Friday night. Under sheriff Groves retrieved him Saturday and transported him back to Traverse City where he was admitted again.

They found the trip enjoyable and profitable and note that time in the old country enhances appreciation for America. Moore, Albion College graduate and medical student, delivered a travelogue at the Clare Study Club. her address is in another column.
Christmas Pageant at Methodist Church Promises Beauty
The Methodist Sunday School presents If Ye Truly Seek Him a Christmas service at ten o'clock with directing by Mrs. T. Car Holbrook Mrs. Fred McGuire and Mrs. A. E. Milder. An offering supports Farming ton Children's Home. The program features Primary children singing Sleep My Little Jesus during The Nativity pantomime and Silent Night by junior and intermediate groups. The pageant ends with Joy to the World during recessional and a Congregational operetta attendance planned for the evening.

Balcony to Be Built in Clare High Gymnasium
The Clare Board of Education approved a steel fireproof balcony 18 to 28 feet wide extending 74 feet along the gym’s south side. It will seat 150 to 250 spectators and is set to be ready for the Lowell game on Saturday evening January 6.
