Alta Langworthy Dies At Home In Clare County Pioneer

Mrs Alta W Langworthy born March 5 1863 in Monroe County Michigan married Edwin J Langworthy in 1887. She lived in Sheridan Township and Mt Pleasant and died December 5 1938 of pneumonia with family at her bedside. Survived by five children sixteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Burial in Cherry Grove Cemetery Clare.

Clare Isabella Boy Scouts Close Year Program at Mt Pleasant

Boys Scouts from nine communities will gather at Mt. Pleasant high school gym Monday evening for the final council activity of the year. A Court of Honor, Tenderfoot Investiture, and Camp Repayshowing announcements are planned with 200 scouts expected. Gas station west of Harrison held up Tuesday morning

Alvin Budd who runs a gas station six miles west of Harrison reports an armed stick-up at about 4 30 Tuesday when two men woke him asked to fill nine gallons of gas then produced a twenty dollar bill to pay. They struck him then fled east. State Police searched but no clues found. suspects described as five foot six and five foot eight inches tall.

Farwell Girl Dies From Car Crash Injuries

Miss Irene Palmer 19 daughter of Mr and Mrs Jesse Palmer of Farwell died Friday morning at McArthur Strange hospital Mt Pleasant from head injuries after a car went off the road southwest of Mt Pleasant She was born May 9 1919 in Owosso and graduated at Parnell High in 1987 She is survived by her parents one sister Fern and three grandparents Funeral services were held Monday at 2 pm at the Palmer grandparents home with Rev Albert Dawe officiating and interment at Gilmore Cemetery in Farwell Out of town attendees included aunt Mrs Ross Schram and her son Ross Jr of Kent Ohio.

New Oil Wells Added at Freeman Field Over Weekend

Two new producers were added to Clare Freeman Field over the weekend. The Chas W Teater No 14 Van Horn flowed 8 barrels in the first hour before being shut in on section 3 Freeman township. Freeman Oil Co No 1 Christensen flowed 364 barrels in eleven hours on NH NE SW. Ends with New Years Eve program and shop notices.

Oil field worker dies after US 27 crash near Clare

Ernest Junior Brisendine, 67, born March 21 1921 in Reamer West Virginia, died from skull fracture and internal injuries after his vehicle skidded and rolled two miles south of Clare on US 27. No inquest was held. He lived in Vinegars and Vernon area, survived by parents a brother and sister. Interment in Vernon cemetery after Friz Chapel service led by Rev A D Telder.

TWO PIONEERS PASS TO GREAT BEYOND MONDAY

Two pioneer residents of this community died on Monday and were laid to rest in the week. Mrs. Harvey Ritter died at her Detroit home Monday and was buried in Clare after services at Clare Baptist church officiated by Rev. A D Telcher. Mr. Ritter, longtime meat market operator here, left many old friends to mourn. James Rulapaugh, elderly Clare county resident, died Monday at his son’s home in Surrey township aged eighty six. Funeral services were held Thursday at 2:00 pm with Doherty & Sons and Rev. Chas Kleinhardt officiating. Interment followed in Surrey Cemetery at Farwell. Floral tributes reflected high esteem for the deceased.

Not Guilty by Insanity Verdict in Livingston Case

In Clare County Circuit Court Harrison a jury found Carl Jack Livingston not guilty by reason of insanity for the murder of Isaiah Leebove. Psychiast Dr. L A Schwartz testified that Livingston was insane. defense and prosecution argued extensively as to state of mind at the time of the shooting.

Civic council to play Santa Claus for needy

The Clare community forms a coordinating council to streamline Christmas charity for the aged and needy. Donations of cash, food, and clothing are welcome at the American Legion Rooms in Clare City Hall. The baskets will be prepared late next week with help from local Boy Scouts and a committee led by Mrs. Doherty and supported by various clubs.

Legion Christmas Party Returns to Walter H. Larman Unit

Guilds Annual Christmas Party Enjoyable Event

The Ladies Guild of the Congregational church met December 14 at the Vernon township home of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Thayer with many members and guests. Santa distributed gifts, readings and carols were enjoyed, and a lunch was served by the hosts.
