Norvall Bovee resigns as Coleman Superintendent citing a doctoral program near Western Michigan University as the main reason. He will join Paw Paw School District, calling it a step up, with Coleman class B enrollment around 2,300. The board seeks leadership for upcoming building projects and offers a $21,000 minimum salary on a three year contract.
Clare County commissioners say the juvenile officer program is needed but funding is unclear after this year’s budget. Swanson's travel and overtime costs, previously covered by insurance and Social Service allocations, now strain the county as earlier funds were cut. The matter is referred to the budget committee for study.
The Clare Board of Education approved raises for six administrators retroactive to July 1 while delaying decisions on non instructional salaries. Secondary principal to earn 20 196, elementary principal 19 884, curriculum director 15 300, with superintendent Snyder noting alignment with district trends. A Dec 22 special meeting will reconsider the non instructional increases and address suspensions for Clare High School seniors and juniors for truancy.
Four unemployed men in Clare County were hired by the Road Commission under the Emergency Employment Act to clear dead elm trees. They have worked about 20 days, removing nearly 500 trees, and will gain training for snow removal and future overtime work. The county received $185,000 for EEA jobs, with the road commission allotted about $35,000.
