Frank Methner Dies After Ill Health in Beaverton

Frank F. Methner of Beaverton township dies at 11:50 Sunday evening after two years of illness culminating in a cerebral hemorrhage. Born January 21, 1874 in Detroit, he lived in Coleman and Beaverton for over 25 years and was a general store operator. He leaves wife Edna, five children including Sgt Ralph Methner and Joyce Methner, eleven brothers and three sisters, plus many relatives. Funeral services were held at the Beaverton Community Building with Elder S. T. Pendleton officiating.

Pfc. Harold Hess of U S Infantry was killed in action in Germany on November 19 1944 at age 22. Born November 5 1922 in Sheridan township he served from Detroit since February and went overseas in July. War Loan Extension Urges Support for War Production

Clare County readers are urged to back the Sixth War Loan with both Friday Telephone Barrage Day and Saturday Gold Star Day events. Eisenhower warned delay in ammunition production imperils Allied troops as shell shortages hinder European and Pacific fronts. The notice stresses returning workers to munitions plants and releasing personnel to war material production, urging every dollar loan to finance the effort.

Clare Fire Chief Haley resigns. Woodcock named interim chief

Clare Fire Chief Albert Haley resigns, effective after Monday's meetings. Richard Woodcock, long time firefighter and current assistant chief, is appointed interim fire chief until spring elections. Haley served since 1831 and will take a six month leave of absence if he returns. Woodcock has been with the department since 1933 and as assistant chief since 1997.
