Citizens Bank and Trust Company joins the Foundation For Commercial Banks in a national campaign to promote Full Service Banking. The full color animated special airs Sunday December 17 at seven for local viewing on channel nine.
The Clare Chamber of Commerce reveals a Christmas letter contest where 16 children win a dollar prize this period and 16 more next week. Winners listed include Christine, Lee Tomaski, Cheryl Teall, Danny Furman, Kenneth Crawford, and others with heartfelt requests for dolls, toy houses, and machinery.
Fifth grade girl Roxzane Peters writes to Santa asking for gifts including Barbie and Skipper dolls and a hoop. She mentions making a Santa in school and asks Santa to bring a toy mouse for her cat Tinker Bell. Dated December 2, 1967.
The Clare Board of Education met in the high school library at 8 p.m. to review architect bids from Wake ly Kushner Wakely. The board will interview firms before selecting a new school architect. It approved a $8 143 60 payment on relocatable classrooms and a $100 000 loan from Citizens Bank to cover near term expenses.
Paul A. Rhoades announces Douglas Hall of Gladwin to fill the Mid Michigan Community College board vacancy following Ellis Van Deventer resignation. Hall, a 1957 Gladwin High School graduate, earned a BS in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Ferris State College in 1961 and studied Anatomy and Physiology at Calvin College. He later partnered in Hall's Drug Store after two years at Blodgett Memorial Hospital.
In December 1907 the Clare Sentinel reports George W. Graham of Farwell sold a 120 acre farm to Al Snyder for 1400 dollars. John H. Wilson offers mens winter coats from 3.75 dollars and gift accessories. Ladies silk waists and fancy work also noted as popular items.
CHS beat Farwell 54 41 in season opener then lost to Houghton Lake 82 62 on Tuesday. Kushmaul and Gillaspy led with double figures as Clare stumbles in non conference game and prepares for Meridian away.
Area churches announce Christmas programs with services on December 17 and 24. FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH presents The Gift of Light at 7:00 PM December 17 and the cantata Carol of Christmas at 11:00 AM December 24, followed by a Christmas Eve service. Other churches offer youth pantomime and candlelight services.
Beaver Tool and Engine ering Corp of Clare announces the retirement of president Aubrey E. Streadwick. Earl H. Morgan, ex Holley Carb Aircraft Division VP, becomes general manager after founding the Troy Michigan company and moving plants to Gaylord and Clare, with Ex-Cell-O Corp acquiring Beaver in 1966.
Clare hosts a kid friendly show featuring Three Little Pigs the Big Bad Wolf a large horse and a rabbit on Friday from 5 30 to 7 30 and Santa visits Saturday from 2 to 4 to greet children Photos with characters available and letters to Santa encouraged.
The Clare Kiwanis Club increased its membership by four in the largest induction ceremony in the club’s history last Wednesday. New Kiwanians Roy Mette George Punches Paul Schroeder and Doc Thompson received certificates and pins after a talk on membership duties by Judge Robert Campbell.
The Clare High School Symphoni¢é Band and Chorus will present a Christmas Concert on Wednesday December 20 at 8 00 p m in the high school gymnasium No admission will be charged.
A proposed move to remove parking meters and offer free two hour parking was presented to the Clare City Commission. Mayor Willard Koch said the commission will study the idea further. Meter enforcement has suffered due to illness of the patrolman. Parking income totals about four thousand to four and a half thousand dollars yearly. The commission plans a report on off street parking and will seek a Chamber of Commerce poll on the question.
State Police are investigating two window shooting incidents in the county. Damaged windows were at the home of Emerson Hampton at 5607 E Colonville Rd and at Edward Williams on Oakland Drive. Both occurred late Sunday afternoon December 3.
