Clare residents can mail letters to Santa through December 14 in a chamber container on McEwan Street near Michigan Consolidated Gas. Santa will pick up letters December 14 at 1 30 p.m. and again December 21, with a second container between Bicknell's and Northland Hardware. Clare Fire Department members packed candy and gift certificates for prizes as Santa plans visits December 14 and 21, and private visits can be arranged through December 21 by calling 412 Clare.

Loomis Shop Cited For Bond Buying Achievement
Loomis Machine Co employees in Clare received a United States Treasury citation for high participation in the Payroll Savings Plan for United States Savings Bonds. President Martin Loomis accepted the award, presented by Circuit Judge Don ald E. Holbrook, noting an 80 percent participation through 1957. County residents invested $105 258 in series EH and H bonds in ten months, reaching 82.8 percent of the year’s $127 000 goal.

Doctors Rush Infant To Life Saving Transfusion
An 18 hour old infant Virginia Reed, daughter of Mr and Mrs Orval Reed of Remus, was rushed to a Grand Rapids osteopathic hospital by Clare General Hospital doctors for a blood replacement due to RH factor complication. Doctors E J Gershon Melvin Wisby and Elmer Sharlow supervised a four hour transfusion with Michigan State Police escort part of the way.

Two Harrison Men Die In Highway 1 Crash
Two Harrison men died in a crash on US 27 north of Clare when their pickup skid and struck a county truck. Leon Hosler 44 died at the scene and Francis O Corey 54 died later at Clare General Hospital. Emil Foell 62 of Farwell drove the county truck and was uninjured. Funeral services set for Friday at the United Brethren Church Harrison with burial planned for Greenwood Township Cemetery and Reed City.

Polio Shots Planned at Clare Public School
Polio vaccination will be given Monday December 16 at Clare Public School. Permission slips will be sent home. Students over fifteen who did not start the clinic series will be charged $1.
