Clare School Principal Weds Ithaca Lady

The wedding of Leta Pauline Clare to Austin Francis Bates took place Thursday at 4:00 p.m. in Ithaca with Rev. H. G. Gaige officiating. Attendants included Mrs. O. Young and Irwin W. Bates. The couple will reside in the Douglas apartment on East Fifth Street after September 1 and were showered with gifts. Guests came from New London Connecticut, Marquette, Jackson, Pillsdale, and Alma.

Young Couple Weds in Michigan City Vows Reach Educators

Earl Gilmore and Miss Ruth Shull spoke their marriage vows in Michigan City Indiana before a clergyman on Tuesday evening August 20. The couple, of Grant and Arthur townships, are Clare school graduates and well known in teaching circles. Gilmore taught at Randall school the past two years. Mrs. Gilmore worked in the Saginaw system. They plan to attend Wheaton College this year.

Legion Convention at Flint Draws Clare Delegation

The 17th Annual American Legion Michigan Department convention gathered in Flint from August 24 to 26 with thousands in attendance and a Clare post presence. Sunday School Picnic At House's Landing

The Southwest Vernon Union Sunday School held its annual picnic at House's Landing on Stevenson Lake August 23 with about seventy five attendees. A noon pot luck dinner preceded a short program by Mrs. Shorts of Clare. Ice cream cooled the group as swimming and boating were enjoyed and all reported an enjoyable time.

Magnet on Michigan highways cleans up scrap metal

The state highway department reports its electric road magnet collected 953 pounds of scrap in three months ending August 15 while traveling 2,402 miles at 35 cents per mile. Former Clare Man Bernie Bidwell Dies Aboard River Boat

Bernie Bidwell a Midland businessman died suddenly August 24 aboard a river boat during a four day northward vacation with family. He was 44 and had suffered angina for three months. Born in Clare, he built a business career in Midland including Bidwell Radio and Electric. Surviving are his wife two sons and several siblings. Funeral services were held in Midland with Rev. Feuell officiating.

Mrs Myron Dunkle died at her Bertha Lake home after a lingering illness. Funeral was held at the home with commitment at Surrey cemetery. Honeymoon Ends in Fatal Crash Near Rosebush

Denver couple Mr. and Mrs. Lhayd L. Arnold were honeymooning when their car collided with Isabella County road scraper on US 27 at McKenitht corners. Mrs. Arnold was killed, Mr. Arnold and Hed. Schaffer were injured and hospitalized. The accident followed a scraper exit from a dirt road onto pavement as the couple headed to Lansing to visit relatives.
