Army Recruiter to Visit Clare Post Office Tuesdays
The U S Army has returned four members of its recruiting service to duty in Clare announced this week. Corporal C F Munro of the Midland station will be at the Clare post office every Tuesday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm to accept enlistments for the Regular Army and to inform boys and parents about Army enlistment opportunities.

James A. Clute Appointed Fire Chief by Clare Council
In Clare on Monday night the council appointed James A. Clute to complete the late Fire Chief Richard Woodcock's term. Clute has served the department for thirty years including roles as captain and assistant chief since 1916. The council also discussed the Howlett subdivision plat and approved it after corrections. City crews installed four in alley incinerators behind McEwan Street businesses to burn refuse, with ashes removed by workers. Glass and tin should be placed beside the incinerators, not inside.

Clare resident dies in Dow plant accident
Frederick Nathaniel Pitz of Clare died from burns after turning on a valve releasing carbolic acid fumes at Dow Chemical in Midland. He had worked four years at the plant and left behind a wife Beulah Castle and three children. Funeral services were held at Berg funeral home with burial in Garfield township cemetery. An explosion later injured Ferris Graham, a plant maintenance man, who was hospitalized in Clare with extensive burns.

Mrs. Adelia Herrick Dies in Detroit After Illness
Mrs. Adelia Coyle Herrick widow of Alfred W. Herrick died Tuesday at her daughter's home in Detroit after weeks of illness. Born February 26 1866 in Worth, New York, she lived in Clare and Highland Park, was a Catholic and active St. Cecilia member, and leaves two daughters Mrs. C J Salsbury and Mrs HB Prior, plus siblings and grandchildren. Funeral set at St. Cecilia's Church with interment in St. Louis cemetery.

Four fined for violating game laws in county
Iva Dunsmore of Hartland John Dunsmore of Falmouth and Gerald Boulton of Flint were found guilty by jury in Justice Sam Wilkinson's court of carrying a gun in a car in a deer area. Each paid 25 dollar fines plus 18 82 dollars costs and were released. Willard Swisher of Lansing pled guilty to possessing ten undersized bluegills and paid 5 dollar fine plus 3 50 Conservation costs and 3 35 court costs. Arraignment for Franklin Schaaf on malicious destruction of property was continued to Friday afternoon.

Two Killed in Weekend Auto Accident Near Clare
Ralph Sprague aged 60 of Manton died and Hazel Davis 48 of Manton passed away at Clare Hospital after a weekend traffic crash west of Clare. The Sprague car skidded after leaving US-10, struck Harold Lowe's car, then collided with Arthur Deisher's vehicle. Several others were injured or treated, including Vivian and Quinton Davis and Helen Doren. The accident prompted hospitalizations in Clare and Midland.
