Isabella County Fair Opens With Week of Events

The Isabella County Fair runs Tuesday to Saturday August 25 through 29 with a queen selection and amateur hour on opening night. Children’s Day features exhibit judging and a Class A Tractor Pulling contest followed by a Michigan horse pulling show. Youth events include games and contests with a livestock parade and auction set for Thursday evening.

Beef Champion sale tops nine thousand dollars at Clare fair

A 800 pound A B Angus steer won Grand Champion Friday at Clare County Free Fair Junior Basestock Show. Jay Kleinhardt raised the top steer and bidders included Doherty Motor Hotel and Citizens Bank. Unofficial sale total reached 9341.25 for 23335 pounds of beef with Jim Sykora auctioneering.

Arrest Of Boys Solves Break-ins Clare MT Pleasant

Two unnamed minor suspects from Clare and Mt Pleasant were arrested Friday for break-ins at The Yarn Mart Packing House Market and Becks Standard Station. Police also caught two youths for malicious mischief at the Doherty Hotel. State police linked the Clare theft to other juvenile crimes across central Michigan.

Father Of 5 Dies In Auto Wreck Near Clare

Edgar William Yats, 27, of Lake 13, a father of five, died early Tuesday when his 1957 Pontiac left Old State Ave near Hatton Road and struck a tree. Coroner and sheriff traced the crash from road marks. Yats was found pinned beneath the wreckage. He appeared to have been alone.

School Board Approves Gas and Milk Contracts

The Clare School Board approved contracts for lunch milk and gasoline for school equipment and buses. They accepted bids from Standard Oil for gasoline and Seal Test distributor for milk. Frances Shelander was granted release from her teaching contract for next year.
