Drowning and Crash fatalities hit Clare County youths
Two youths died in Clare County events within a week a 15 year old drowned alone at Arnold Lake and a 19 year old Clare resident Don ald Bigelow died in a crash on US 27 near Pine River Township. Da vid West 31 and a 12 year old passenger were uninjured. The crash happened near Jefferson Road at 5 10 am with a tractor trailer driven by Donald Zimmerman 31 and a passenger Donald Zimmerman Jr 12. The incident remains under investigation.

Farwell prepares for its 100th anniversary from September 2 to 7 with a centennial pageant and week of events. A six member committee leads planning with help from civic groups and the Farwell Teacher Club sponsoring an ox roast and proposing a local historical society. A centennial book by Hazel Littlefield Smith highlights regional history and Portland Cement Company’s early industry. Activities begin August 29 with a centennial queen ball and continue through a pageant, talent show, carnival, antique display, a little league game, and an Auld Lang Syne banquet.
