The event on Sunday August 11 includes fly casting and plug casting contests open to all, plus a surf board race behind a motorboat. Old-time fly fishermen are favored to win, while a duck chase led by Joe Penner is planned for bathers.
Commissioner James Thomson orders all cattle six months or older shown at county district or state fairs to pass a negative Bangs Disease test within 66 days of exhibition. Accredited-state herds are exempt. Clare County plans tests for the September fair, with P. D. Gibson coordinating samples to reduce costs.
Friday night August Sth the semi monthly dance will be held in the Gladwin Community Building sponsored by Camp Molasses River. The camp orchestra will provide the music. Also offering Dustless Pagahontas at 38,76 per ton from Clare Wlevatox Co. adv.
In Clare county many song birds have been killed prompting public notice of state law. No person shall kill catch or possess wild non-game birds including robins meadowlarks and wrens. Violators are guilty of a misdemeanor with fines from 10 to 100 dollars plus costs or up to 90 days in jail.
Michigan begins a big push to collect delinquent property taxes with waivers on penalties and interest for older years if paid by September 1 1935. Installment plans up to ten years with four percent interest apply to 1932 and earlier. 1933 and 1934 taxes can be paid without interest before November 1 1935. Delinquent taxes not paid may be offered for sale in May 1936.
Jim Clark announces a personnel change in the Royal Chicagoans orchestra at Twin Elms Club Clare. Rich Dayton, a former member, returns after leaving a year ago and will perform saxophone clarinet trumpet and slide trombone with a strong baritone voice heard on leading radio stations. The addition is expected to boost the orchestra’s popularity.
Rosé Mary Jane Dafoy infant daughter of James and Bessie Dafoy was born August 3 1934 and died July 28 1935 after a week with measles. She leaves five brothers Nathan James Charles William and Glair two sisters Madonna and Ruby and other relatives. Funeral services were held from the Cornwell ranch home Friday morning with Rev Albert Kanarr delivering the message. Burial was at Charry Grove.
Fred Austin died in Detroit July 80th after a long illness. The body was brought to Thurston Funeral Home for Friday services led by Rev. Charles Rieinhardt. Interment followed at Cherry Grove. Austin, born 1871 in Hudson, married Ida Lydiatt in 1897. survived by wife, four children, seven grandchildren, and many relatives. The family recalls his residence in Clare county areas before settling in Detroit. Attendance from distance included Mr. and Mrs. Coulter and daughters and Mr. and Mrs. William Faulds.
Michigan wheat growers will receive crop control contracts for 1936 and the next three years, administered through county control committees elected by farmers. The four year contract limits planting to 85 percent of base and 64 to 100 percent within a 25 percent adjustment window, with two installment parity payments and a 54 percent allotment of adjusted base production.
Notice to customers states the smith will operate four blacksmith shops at his Vernon Hill home and offer on site horse shoeing at customers homes with competitive prices.
Tuesday evening the Logi Cabin Club and their husbands surprised Mr and Mrs D Komp at their home on East 6th Street with a bountiful supper on the lawn followed by games and social hour. All were invited to call again.
The Kaul reunion at George Gilcher's Sheridan township farm drew over 100 relatives from Detroit Dearborn Pontiac Flint Bay City Jackson Saginaw with a July 28 gathering. The next reunion was set for Frankenmuth 1936. The Baker reunion at State park Cadillac on August 4 hosted about 50 cousins and one uncle with attendees from Detroit Caro Rosebush Clare and nearby areas. Members noted six deaths and two births in the year and planned the Harrison State Park meet first Sunday in August 1936.

Teoophile Borle born in Belgium March 26 1869 died August 1 while working in his Alma area home field. He married Mary Victoor in 1884 Court Marck Belgium. she died 1892. Survived by eleven children, twelve grandchildren, three great grandchildren. buried Calvary cemetery Mt. Pleasant after Requiem High Mass at Sacred Heart Church.
Charles Welch of Detroit died June 5 1935 at age 71 or 72 after a stroke of paralysis. He was born May 28 and was the eldest son of Richard Welch, part of an early Clare family that came to the area in 1880. He worked for Cadillac in Detroit before living with his sons Leo and Fred in recent years. Survived by two sons Leo and Ray and six grandchildren, two sisters, and many friends.
A notice directs the party who received passenger auto license No. 36766 to call at the bank and bring their title and identification slip. Signed by James S. Bicknell.
William R. Bawkey born June 27 1854 died Friday August 2 after a brief illness. A Gilmore township pioneer and active citizen he leaves two sisters Mrs Susan A Walker Clare and Mrs Rosa Allby Mt Pleasant and two brothers John H and Charles both of Gilmore township. Funeral at Christian church in Gilmore conducted by Rev Albert Dawe Clare with Odd Fellows of Farwell in charge.
Geo A Mater born January 21 1870 in Kenton Ohio. Moved with family to Barry County Michigan then Clare and Flint before returning to Clare. Survived by wife Mary Loyentz daughter Thelma two brothers Stephen and Daniel and sister Mrs Lida Teeple. Funeral at St Cecilia Church with Rev Stanley Morrison officiating and burial in church cemetery. Numerous relatives and friends attended.
Sunday evening August 4 the marriage of Miss Velma Guy and Mathew Collins was solemnized at the BE Rosebush Methodist church with Rev. John W. Stanton officiating. Parents and relatives attended and a luncheon followed the ceremony. Mr Collins works in the oil field as a service man.
Mrs. Sidney Sherman died Tuesday night at Glare County General Hospital from a broken hip. Funeral services will begin with prayers at 2 30 Friday at the house and continue at the Church of God. Mrs. Bertha Shumway died in Farwell Wednesday morning at age 70. Services are held this afternoon at the Methodist church led by Rev. George Stanford of Clare.
The public is informed to observe sprinkling hours from 6 to 9 a.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. City Council.
A Sunday night crash near Clare on US 10 injured three from Mt. Pleasant and killed Mrs. James Crysler after a blinding oncoming driver failed to see the road. Mrs. Crysler died at Clare County General Hospital. others were treated with varying injuries. Funeral services for Mrs. Crysler were held in Reed City.
Walter H. Larman reports a regular Clare Community Building meeting. Post and Auxiliary picnic postponed to a later date due to upcoming events including a Water Carnival in Harrison. Eger of Ingraham Production Company proposes a home talent play A Night in Hollywood to raise funds. Delegates for the State Convention at Flint discussed and a basket picnic invitation from Hast Towns Post is noted for Ex-Service Men's Day on August 11.
