Waidelich-Meyer Nuptials at St Bartholomew Kawkawlin

Miss Gertrude Waidelich and Eberhard Waidelich wed Rev L G Meyer at St Bartholomew Lutheran church in Kawkawlin Michigan with Rev Co Waidelich and Rev Leyrer officiating. Bridesmaids and groomsmen included Esther Timerick and Hazel Snell with a reception for 125 guests from Minnesota Wisconsin and Michigan. The couple plan to live in Stirling after August 14, 1925, as they begin their life together.

Mrs Lida Welch Dead After Long Illness

Mrs. Lida Welch died July 23 in Clare after ten months of illness. Born November 27, 1857 in Livingston County Michigan, she lived in Hamilton Township Gratiot County and Pontiac before settling in Clare. Survived by Frank H. Walterhouse Laura Smith and Nettie Banders. Funeral was held July 25 at 2 pm from Ithaca M E B with burial in North Star Cemetery.

Mrs. Elizabeth Webster of Battle Creek as guest of honor presided by Mrs. KE Maude Budge of Beaverton at the twelfth annual Clare Gladwin Midland Association session in Farwell on August 2. Youths Capsize Boat on Lake Leaves One Dead

Vernon Sullivan aged 19 of Prudenville drowned Thursday evening at Houghton Lake when four youths rocked their boat causing it to capsize in front of spectators. The body was recovered but CPR failed to revive him.

Soap Carving Contest Exhibits Child Sculptures

In 1927 twelve St. Louis public school pupils aged 8 to 11 under Miss Ione Alma Bellinger had their carvings shown in Art Galleries nationwide as examples for the 1928 Soap Carving contest by Procter and Gamble. City Plans to Install Water Meters for All Services

City Council approved purchasing 500 water meters with installation to begin before May first. The move targets reducing water waste from leaks and hydrants and ends flat rate abuse to lower costs for taxpayers and stabilize rates, citing pumping capacity and proven city experiences.

Clare County Visitor Reports Blow Snake Killing

A visitor at Clare County reported a blow snake killed near Bertha Lake, seventeen miles from Clare. Deputy Game Warden Eugene Pettit was called at night, the man offered the snake as proof of honesty, but Pettit declined. The visitor appeared under the influence and wanted to comply with the law.

Four Month Old Baby Strangled in Bedstead

John D. Carey, four months old, died of strangulation after slipping from a bed while his mother, Mrs. LaDour Carey, was briefly away. He became wedged between end bars, catching his chin. The death occurred southeast of Clare. Funeral services were held at the home with Rev. W. S. Teeter officiating and burial in Cherry Grove cemetery.

Henry Ford and son with several employees visited Clare last Thursday on a return trip from the Ford farm west of Harrison. They dined at the Doherty Hotel and praised Clare and the Doherty on both recent visits, amid rumors of new Ford car bodies and motor styling.

Road Leveler Being Perfected at Clare County

A road leveling machine built by Glare Road Level Works is being tested on U. S. 10 through Clare County by patrolman George Haring. The device uses a dual set of 45 degree blades to rake gravel and smooth holes, with a rear blade clearing loose material. John Northon, company manager, notes no production figures yet but hints at blades with cutting teeth for ice and snow removal.

Ann Arbor Railroad Upgrades Steel Between Clare and Farwell

The Ann Arbor line between Clare and Farwell will receive 85 pound rails to replace 75 pound rails. An extra labor crew works the project, with plans to replace old ties and add ballast for a firmer road bed. Owned and controlled by the Wabash railroad, heavy freights justify the improvement.

Hampton Family Reunion Settles At Crystal Lake

The Hampton family reunion was held at Crystal Lake on Sunday and Monday July 31 and August 1. Forty four members attended including Dr. J. B. Sharp and family Indianapolis Rev Samuel Hartock South Port Indiana and many others from Michigan Illinois and Ohio. Crystal Lake was chosen as permanent yearly meeting place for the Hampton family reunion.

Gilmore Township Man Drowns at Red Bridge

Herbert Wood of Gilmore Township died in a drowning at the Red Bridge near Mt. Pleasant after saying he would make one more dive. He was 22, born May 24, 1905, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Wood. Rev. Ralph R. Woodard led funeral services at home, one of the largest ever in Gilmore.

Clare golfers seek honors at Windover course

Ten Clare golf enthusiasts played on the Windover course last Friday and dined at the clubhouse. Two furniture competitors posted low scores, while a prominent manufacturer and judge and a county road commissioner, new to golf, played creditably and may challenge the leaders after more practice. The Windover course is praised and meals at the clubhouse are affordable this season.

Isaac Thompson Dies at Aurora

Isaac Thompson dies at age 79 in Aurora Colorado after a brain hammerage and stroke. He was born in Canada, married Eleanor LaMotte in Saginaw, she preceded him in death. Survived by daughters Laura of the city and Syd Hampton of Aurora and other relatives. Funeral services and burial were at Aurora.

Corporation Purchases Northwoods Outing Club Site

H G Bayliss and W A Noble of Detroit met Clare county representatives to discuss The Capitol Land Corporation development of a 746 acre tract in Hayes and Hamilton townships known as section 19. The property features seven lakes including Townline and Dodge with a planned club house on Townline lake and canoe trails. The venture names a no shooting game preserve for members and a separate 7400 acre hunting and fishing area near Lake St Helen in Rostommon county. Memberships will be offered to Clare county residents soon.

A Lansing school for the blind reunion gathered Tuesday at the Slocum residence near Coleman. Graduates from Clare and Mt Pleasant area, including Prof. B S Peterson and Edward McCrea, shared stories, violin and piano music, and a Bohemian supper as they recalled school days and networked as artists and performers.
